Roxie Hawkins Murphy

Roxie Hawkins Murphy, age 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Sunday, July 29, 2012. Roxie was born on August 20, 1921 in Thatcher, Arizona to Lillie Jane Palmer and Abraham Lincoln Hawkins.

She was the sixth of thirteen children and grew up in Thatcher, Arizona and the surrounding area. On May 23, 1941, Roxie graduated from Gila Junior College with a diploma in business. Roxie married Jim Murphy on March 17, 1945 in Thatcher, Arizona. They are the parents of three sons and two daughters and became an eternal family on January 12, 1965 at the LDS Oakland Temple.

Roxie enjoyed life! Some of the things she enjoyed are: baking, church, cooking, crocheting, knitting, gardening, playing games, puzzles, reading, serving others, and traveling. However, her greatest joy was her family.

She was first and foremost a homemaker, but occasionally she found time to work part-time as a secretary while moving over 33 times from coast to coast as her husband's job required.

Roxie was always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as President of the Relief Society and Primary, and as a counselor in the Young Women's organization along with multiple other callings. Her favorite calling was that of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim. She is survived by her five children, Steven Michael, Kim Kathleen, Terrance Patrick, Erin Eilene, Shawn James, their spouses and a grand posterity which includes many grandchildren and great-grandchildren!

Family and friends are welcome to attend a viewing at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2012 followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS East Bench Chapel, located at 1631 East 900 North, Lehi, Utah. Roxie will be interred next to her husband at the Utah Veterans Cemetery near Camp Williams in Bluffdale, Utah at 9:00 a.m. on August 6, 2012.

The family would like to thank all those who have provided loving, tender care to Roxie over the past few years. Online guest book at wingmortuary.com.
