Aaron Garner Oleson
1938–2023
On March 21, 2023, Garner Oleson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 84. Garner was born in Ogden, Utah on April 17, 1938 to Orlin and Lolabell (Garner) Oleson. He was the only son in a close-knit family with six sisters.
He graduated from BYU and taught seminary in Magna, Utah, where he and his wife, Sherry (Pearson), met and were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1964. Garner and Sherry raised seven children, and later helped to raise more than a dozen foster children. They were married for nearly 60 years, and together served family history missions in Frankfurt Germany and Sydney, Australia.
Garner earned a master of social work degree (MSW) from the University of Utah and was a social worker for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (now named LDS Family Services, formerly known as LDS Social Services), retiring in 2000 after 33 years of service.
He enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, fixing things ("tinkering"), working in the yard, and most of all—spending time with his loving family to whom he was devoted.
Garner is survived by his wife, Sherry, his sister, Isabell (Joe) Stringham, children: Diana Rose, aka Danelle, Maralee (Gene) Nelson, Tamra (Richard) Turpin, Mark (Cherise), Joel (Virginia) and Philip (Terra); 20 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. He is reunited with his youngest child, Kyle, his parents and five sisters who preceded him in death.
