Alice Ann (Sallee) Hawkins Worthen

Alice Ann Hawkins Worthen (Sallee) was born February 3, 1930 to Ray and Montez Elliott Hawkins of Edgemont, Utah. Sallee passed away at her home in Lehi, Utah January 7 ^th , 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Sallee was raised in Edgemont, Utah on a farm with her older brothers Dick and Doug Hawkins.   They had fruit trees, chickens, and horses. They were a hardworking family. 17 years later she finally got a sister, Dorthy, who she loved and did many things with later in life.

Sallee graduated from Lincoln High School (Provo) in 1948, and then married the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Worthen September 30, 1948. In 2016, they were sealed in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. They made their home in Lehi, Utah where they raised 6 children; Rick (Sandra) Worthen, Ann (Tran) King, John (Loraine) Worthen, Chris (Randy) Roten, Ray (Kim) Worthen, and Troy (Jodi) Worthen.

Sallee worked at the Utah State Developmental Center in American Fork where she met many friends. She loved her work there and would often bring some of the children home at Christmas time for a few hours or to do other activities. She also worked at Cascade Shadows in the Spring and planted flowers which she loved to do. She had a green thumb, most remember her beautiful yard and rose garden she loved to work in. Sallee also worked at Laney's on Lehi Main Street for a number of years. This job supported her love of nice clothes. The family's favorite was her love of gold shoes.

Sallee had a love of travel. She went with her high school friends to many countries and had lots of adventures. She had a special love for Scotland and Ireland and visited many places her relatives came from, including the Fraser Castle. She loved history and was very knowledgeable about the places she had been. She would light up when talking about them and had so many wonderful memories she loved to share.

When Dick retired, they volunteered many hours at Yuba State Park where they made many friends and good memories. They were awarded the "Citizen of the Year Award" in 1987 by the Division of Utah State Parks.

They loved the outdoors, especially with their family. In 1993, Dick and Sallee purchased property near Salina, Utah and made their own park which they named "Nunya". This was the place for family and friends to enjoy time together. As the years went by, they spent many hours there building their own 9 hole golf course, fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes, cards, and riding their four-wheelers. They loved Nunya and spent as much time as they could during the year with family and friends.

Sallee has missed Dick the last nine years. It was hard for her being alone even though she always had friends and family that would drop in daily. As a family, we are happy they are reunited and hope they are preparing our new Nunya in the next life.

Sallee is survived by 6 children, 24 grandchildren, 76 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren (with 4 on the way), a sister Dorthy Goulding, and sister in law Audrey Worthen.   She was preceded in death by her husband Dick, parents Ray & Montez Hawkins, her brothers Dick and Doug Hawkins, and a granddaughter, Angela Worthen.

Sallee (Mom) always put her family first. She was our rock and we will continue to proudly build on her and Dads legacy. We will miss you Mom more than any words can say – but as some of the last words you spoke- "Just Be Happy". We will continue to do good and love our family that was built by your love.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Lehi 11th Ward Chapel, 880 North 700 East, Lehi, Utah.  A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow in the Lehi City Cemetery.
