Barbara Mae Haynie Ward, 90, died on May 23, 2021 in Lehi, Utah from complications related to old age. She died at home in the loving care of her family.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her daughter Gloria Denise Ward and her son, Ronald Douglas Ward. She is survived by her husband Marion Dean Ward and her children, Ken Ward (Jelaire), Dennis Ward (Debra), Terrie Hovey (Roger), Nathan Ward, Kathryn Rasmuson (Eric) and Shelly Ward. She has 26 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren.

Barbara was born on January 7, 1931 in Los Angeles, California. She was the oldest child of Charles Burras Haynie and Jessie Elisia Jurgens Haynie. Barbara met Dean Ward at a church activity when they were 17 years old. Through their courtship she discovered that he had all the qualities she most desired. She found her "soul-mate". They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on February 14, 1950. They celebrated their 71 ^st wedding anniversary this year. Barbara expressed gratitude for the years they had together and for his loyal and loving heart. They were sweethearts to the end.

Barbara was a woman of strong convictions and had great respect and reverence for Heavenly Father. She was a woman of wisdom and discernment and a source of strength and insight for her family and others. She loved her country and participated civically. She was grateful for the blessing of liberty.

Barbara and Dean served a mission to the Florida Tallahassee Mission. Barbara faithfully served in various callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She served as a Cub Scout leader in her 70s and a Young Women secretary in her 80s. She had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and relied on prayer. She used the scriptures as her guide. Her lifelong mantra was from Isaiah 12:2, "God is my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid". She lived by faith and put her trust in God.

Barbara fostered a learning environment in her home. She loved words and read books and poetry to her children when they were young. She valued education and took college classes over the years. She graduated with an Associate of Applied Science Degree from Utah Technical School (UVU) in 1983 at the age of 52. She graduated with a 3.89 GPA and received the "Outstanding Accounting Student Award" at the ceremony. She was hired at the Mapleton branch of Central Bank and worked there until she retired.

Barbara and Dean had a "can do" attitude and were fearless about trying things they had never done before. Over the years they built two houses, raised animals, and grew their own food. They worked together to beautify their home and yard. Barbara was an example of the phrase, "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without." Her sons often joked about what might possibly be in the meatloaf because of her frugality.

Barbara had a difficult time sitting still. She loved to create. She sewed quilts, crocheted, and made beautiful gifts for family and friends. She was a cultured woman and valued the arts, music, and literature. She spent hours developing her talent for painting and drawing. She loved nature and planted flowers and trees around her yard. She loved sunflowers.

Barbara was passionate about her family. They were her priority. She loved spending time with her husband and family. She faithfully remembered the yearly birthdays of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with a personalized card. She was extremely aware of the feelings of others and expressed her love and support with handwritten notes and phone calls. She enjoyed working on family history and compiled books about ancestors to give as yearly Christmas gifts.

We are grateful for the blessing of having her for our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. We miss her and want to live our lives so that we will be with her again. She taught us that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ families can be eternal.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1 ^st at the Lehi Utah South Stake 600 S 500 W Lehi, UT 84043 followed by a funeral at 12:00 p.m.

Interment will be at the Lehi Cemetery 1525 N 600 E Lehi, UT 84043
