On Saturday, November 5, 2022, Betty Sly Gurney passed away in her home at the age of 81. She was born on May 5, 1941 to Etsil Jefferson Sly and LaVern Littlefield Sly in Beaver, Utah.

Betty was a graduate of Lehi High School. She married the love of her life Lloyd Gurney. They were married for 63 years and had 8 children.

She and Lloyd worked together on their mink ranch as they raised their family. Betty had a love for learning and read many books. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Relief Society, Young Women's and Primary organizations. Betty had a great love for the Lord and serving His children. She and her husband served several missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at Heber Valley Girls Camp and Lake Creek Camp.

Betty worked in the scouting program and received the Scouts highest award for leaders, the Silver Beaver. She will be remembered for the dish cloths she would crochet and give to neighbors and friends. She enjoyed helping students at the high school when she ran the computer lab. Betty liked to go camping and her children have many memories of the camping trips they would take.

Betty was preceded in death by her father Etsil Jefferson Sly, mother and stepfather LaVern and Ted Louder, 2 sisters; Beth Miller (her twin) and Bonnie Taylor, grandson Brendan Gurney, sons-in-law; Bryan Durrant and David Baum, and brother-in-law Delwyne Ethington. She is survived by her husband Lloyd Brent Gurney (Lehi), daughter Sharlene Baum (Lehi), daughter Darlene Durrant (Lehi), son Tony and Kellie Gurney (Eagle Mountain), son Wesley and Heidi Gurney (Saratoga Springs), daughter Valene and Jared Fugal (American Fork), son Stanley and Alisha Gurney (California), daughter Larene and Dan Haueter (Magna), and daughter Jalene and Eric Raff (Lehi), 38 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sisters; Patricia and Don Parry (Salem, Utah), Jackie Ethington (Lehi), and Ruthann and Kevin Ensley (Idaho).

She is loved and will be missed by family and friends.

Viewing will be held at the Lehi Utah Stake Center, 1251 West 900 North, Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 11am with a viewing from 9:30-10:30am at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Lehi City Cemetery.
