Catherine Ann Clark Swain, age 70, passed away on April 13, 2025, in the loving care and home of her daughter Melissa. Cathy was born on December 3, 1954, in Los Angeles, California, to Bruce Edwin Clark and Ruth Catherine Trevorrow Clark. She was the youngest of three children and grew up in a warm, loving home with her parents and siblings.

Cathy had a bright spirit and an infectious laugh that could light up a room. She loved the beach and spent countless hours by the ocean, finding joy in the sun and waves. As a child and through her teenage years, she was known to sit on the corner of her L.A. street, waving to everyone who passed by. Her mother passed away unexpectedly when Cathy was just 16 years old—a loss that deeply shaped her life and tender heart.

At 17, she was introduced to the missionaries by her friend Lisa, and chose to be baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—a decision that anchored her for the rest of her life. Among the missionaries who taught her was Sam Swain, who would become her eternal companion. She often shared the sweet story of calling former Elder Swain to help her "remember" her BYU dorm, by asking what his dorm was. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple on November 22, 1974.

Cathy and Sam built a beautiful life together full of love and perseverance through many challenges. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Ocala, Florida, where their first child was born. They later returned to Utah, where they welcomed three more children, and then moved to Tucson, Arizona, in 1982, where their family grew to include six children total. In Tucson, Sam ran an electroplating business while Cathy and her best friend Sande operated a summer swim school that became a beloved staple in the community. A devoted stay-at-home mother, she poured her energy into her children's lives, supporting their many sports, school, and church activities.

In 1993, Cathy and Sam moved their electroplating business to Provo, Utah, eventually settling in Vineyard and later Orem. They were a constant example of faith, service, and love to all who knew them. When Sam passed away in 2007, Cathy's world shifted, but she carried on with unmatched devotion to her children, grandchildren, and her church callings.

She served joyfully in the Young Single Adult Stake Relief Society Presidency for many years and cherished her time with the young women she mentored. She also worked alongside her best friend Sande at Amelia Earhart Elementary, where her boundless energy and kindness touched many.

In 2022, Cathy was diagnosed with dementia and declined quickly. Through it all, her cheerful spirit, warmth, and genuine love for others never faded. She is now joyfully reunited with her beloved husband Sam—a reunion surely filled with joy, peace, and laughter.

Cathy is survived by her six children: Rhonda (Greg) Spears of Prattville, AL; Clif (Rosario) Swain of Spanish Fork, UT; Melissa (Cody) Southwick of Lehi, UT; Emma Wright of Ivins, UT; Daniel (Ila) Swain of Mapleton, UT; and Sarah (Tobey) Waggoner of Ivins, UT; her 27 beloved grandchildren; and her siblings Mary Ruth Clark of Grand Junction, CO, and Stephen (Jennifer) Clark of Grand Terrace, CA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Ruth Clark; her parents-in-law, Clifton and Doris Swain; her eternal companion, Sam Swain; and her precious grandson, Bruce Swain.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18th at 11am, at the Sunset Heights 6th Ward chapel, 500 South 600 West Orem, Utah.  A viewing will be held at the church Thursday April 17th from 6-8 pm with a viewing prior to funeral services from 9:30-10:30 am Friday morning. Interment will follow at the Santaquin City Cemetery.

Cathy's legacy is one of unconditional love, unwavering faith, and tireless devotion to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
