Our beloved father and grandfather Charles Lee Nelson passed away at the age of 83, Friday, June 19, 2020. He was Born December 3, 1936 to Ashley and Virley Nelson in Mayfield Utah.

He married the love of his life Vicki Lynn Quigley on August 20,1969, they were sealed one year later in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Charley as most people remember him was born in Mayfield, Utah and was the oldest of three children. He liked to tell the story that there were 4ft snow drifts and that it was -40 degrees below zero the day he was born. He was named after his father's Uncle Charles. He lived in a few different places as a child as his father was a miner and also worked as a law enforcement officer. They finally settled in Lehi and he's proudly called it home for well over 75yrs.

He graduated from LDS Seminary and from Lehi High School in 1956. Shortly after graduation he joined the Utah National Guard serving with the 1457 Engineers for 6 years. He was also a proud member of the Lehi Jaycees Young Men of Action. He worked in the Grocery business for a number of years, working for Larsen's Market, Smith's Food and Drug and Kohlers in Lehi. He also worked for Ajax Press for 5 years before going to work for Lehi City. Working for Lehi City became his career and love for over 26 years. He officially retired from Lehi City April 02, 2002 but continued working part time for the city for 3 more years.

He was so proud of the work he did for the city and loved the people he worked with. He started off working in the water and sewer department and after a year was asked if he would like to take over the buildings and grounds where he worked for the remainder of his time with the city. He was awarded numerous beautification awards from the state for the amazing job he did with the flowers and grounds around the city buildings. He truly had a green thumb and a way with plants and nature which spilled over to his home garden and yard. One of the things he was most proud of was planting vegetables in with the flowers at the city buildings and anyone in need could come and freely pick what they needed for free. He was always thinking of others and willing to give what he had.  Dad was a very hard worker, and he had a gentle soul and a huge smile that would light up any room he entered. He and his coworker Johnny were always playing practical jokes on each other. You never knew what was going to pop out at you when you walked in the back door of the old city offices. Dad was always telling stories and jokes even up till the end, he was telling jokes to the nurses. Anyone that knew dad loved him!!

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints he served in many church jobs and was a faithful home teacher to those he was given to visit. He served in the Mount Timpanogos Temple for a short while with his wife Vicki.

Charley and Vicki were able to welcome their son Steven into their loving home, November 1974 and their daughter Stephanie in June of 1977. He loved his kids so much and was so proud of all of their accomplishments. He was equally excited when he became a grandfather. He loved his 4 grandchildren with all his heart and was so looking forward to watching them grow up! We took many vacations as a family. They were some of his fondest memories. Dad enjoyed spending time in the mountains. He was taught at a very young age how to hunt and fish by his father, grandfathers and many uncles and was proud to be able to pass those skills down to his son and grandsons.

We are all saddened by his passing but take great joy in knowing that he is now reunited with his eternal companion and best friend Vicki. They shared over 43 years together raised two wonderful children and loved their 4 grandkids with every ounce of love they had. They leave a wonderful legacy that will live on through their children and grandchildren and many more generations to come.

Charley was preceded in death by his loving wife Vicki Lynn Nelson, parents Ashley and Virley Nelson and sister BettyAnn Christiansen. He is survived by two children Stephanie Anderson and Steven (Rebecca) Nelson and four grandchildren, Clayton, Devrey, Kylee and Wyatt Nelson, brother Richard (Sandy) Nelson, brother in law Kent Christiansen and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

We will be holding Graveside services with full Military Honors on Thursday June 25th at 12:30pm at the Lehi City Cemetery, 1100 North 400 East.  Friends and family may call Wednesday evening, June 24th at Wings Mortuary, 118 East Main St. Lehi, Utah, from 6-8pm and Thursday morning also at Wing Mortuary from 11am-12pm.
