A generous, self made successful, positive, strong, giant of a man was Charles William Whiting. Just shy of 86 years of age he left this mortal existence on May 16th of extended illnesses.. Services will be held on May 20th at 10 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Glendale, Ca. located at 1101 N Central Ave , California and May 22nd at 10 am at Wing Mortuary, 118 E Main St, Lehi, Utah. Interment following at Lehi Cemetery followed by lunch at the North Hampton Reception Center.
Charles was born June 22, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He overcame a challenging childhood as a performing acrobat with his two siblings known as the Knox Trio. His acrobatic athletic talents resurfaced as a yell leader for Brigham Young University (BYU). He was proud to have set the record of walking the length of the basketball court on his hands.
He served in the Korean War as a codebreaker. Then he went on to attend L.A. Valley College where he served as a class president. He went on to graduate from BYU. During his BYU years, he was a member of the Tau Sigma social unit where he built lifelong friendships. He was also a member of the BYU Cougar Club Legacy Five, Elk Kiwanis, and Rotary. His favorite hobbies were fishing, golfing, traveling and following BYU sports.
He began supporting himself at age 16 and went on to be a salesman and financial advisor. He worked with companies such as Lockheed, Pfizer Pharmaceutical, Morgan Stanley, and Wedbush Securities.
Charles loved his profession as a stockbroker and was beloved by his clients. He saw them as family and opted to never retire. He was a philanthropist to good causes such as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints humanitarian services, BYU scholarships, various hospitals, culture arts organizations, Children's Justice Center for Abused Children, as well as offering financial support and gifts to family, friends and strangers.
He is beloved by his wife Ruth Allred Whiting, son Keith Holt (Ruth), granddaughter Stephanie Hansen (Christian), and grandson Corbin Holt, stepchildren Amber Gubler (Curtis), Tara Niekamp (Jeff), Brent Allred, Mark Allred, and Rand Allred (Ashley)., two siblings Larry Whiting (Valarie) and Marilyn Fashbaugh (Dick), adored and adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was profoundly loved by family, extended family and many friends and will be missed but always remembered.
