Connie Lou Simpson Nelson
Connie Lou Simpson Nelson, age 88, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026. She was born in Payson, Utah, on July 11, 1938, and was raised in the community she loved.
Connie attended the Peteetneet School and Payson High School. From an early age, she had a love for performing. She sang at many events as a child and enjoyed participating in plays, pep club and dance revue throughout high school. Connie especially treasured the time she spent with her beloved grandmother, Elsie, who made Connie darling dresses throughout her life. Those dresses, and the love that went into making them, were a special part of Connie’s memories.
Connie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving faithfully in many callings and capacities throughout her life. Her faith was an important part of who she was and guided her in her devotion to her family and service to others.
Connie married Sergie W. Nelson, and together they raised three wonderful sons: Rik, Todd, and Kurtis. Connie was a lady through and through. She was always beautifully put together and carried herself with grace, elegance and a little (or a lot) of spunk. Although there wasn’t an ounce of tomboy in her, she never hesitated to do all the “boy things” with her sons. She and her friend Joann would take the boys fishing at Utah Lake, and Connie rarely, if ever, missed one of their sporting events. Her boys were her pride and joy. Connie’s love only grew as her family grew. She adored her sons, their wives, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. One of her favorite things was shopping for clothes for her children and grandchildren. She loved seeing them dressed in something she had picked out especially for them.
Connie enjoyed remarkably good health for most of her life and was a hard worker. She worked for more than 30 years at the Utah County Treasurer’s Office while also working Saturdays at Durfey Dry Cleaners. Even after retiring, Connie continued working several days a week at Durfey’s. She was dependable, hardworking, and took great pride in doing her best. There was never a stain she couldn’t get out! Later in life, Connie began experiencing fractures in her vertebrae.
Multiple surgeries provided some relief, but eventually the pain became severe and began to take a toll on her overall health. Macular degeneration also significantly affected her vision, eventually taking away her ability to drive. As getting around became increasingly difficult, her health slowly declined. Through it all, she remained deeply loved by her family. In her final weeks, many of Connie’s family members had the precious opportunity to spend time with her and say goodbye. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, hard work, family devotion, and cherished memories.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman Simpson and Elizabeth West Simpson; her sister, Kathryn Eisner; her brother, Larry Simpson; her husband, Sergie W. Nelson; and her grandchildren, Riky S. Nelson and Ali Lee Nelson. She is survived by her three sons, Rik S. Nelson, Todd (Amy) Nelson, and Kurtis (Tracee) Nelson; her brother, Sam Simpson; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren, who will all miss her dearly.
Friends and family may come to express their condolences on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Wing Mortuary-118 East Main, Lehi, Utah. A graveside service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Lehi City Cemetery 1100 North 400 East, Lehi, Utah.
Connie will be remembered as a beautifully spunky, hardworking, devoted mother and grandmother—a true lady whose greatest joy was her family. Her love, strength, faith, and the memories she created with those she loved will live on in the generations who follow.
The family would like to thank the loving staff at Bellaview Assisted Living and her Nurse, Shae, and Aide, Courtney, for their love and care and friendship!
