Corene Gurney Bennett (1935-2023) returned to the loving arms of our Heavenly Parents surrounded by family on June 17th.
Corene was born in Provo, Utah, at her grandmother's house. Her parents were J. Ferrin and Virginia Gurney. She was raised on a farm in Lehi. She graduated from Lehi High School and was their class secretary. In her 50's she completed a Bachelors of Arts Degree at BYU.
Corene married Marlow D. Bennett and later divorced. They had 7 children together and raised their family in Alpine.
Corene loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of the Church. She loved reading her scriptures and studied them daily. She enjoyed serving in her callings, and particularly loved being a family history leader and a nursery leader. She loved the temple and enjoyed being a temple worker. She served a mission for the church in Toronto, Canada in 2004.
Corene always had a love for colors and creating art and crafts. Many of her grandchildren have fond memories of making melted crayon pictures with her. She was the president of her art club for many years.
She always loved gardening and plants. In Alpine, she had a large garden. After her mission she had a thriving laundry basket garden.
Corene enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and jeep riding. She was very proud of being able to hike to the top of Timp in her 50's.
Most of all Corene loved her family. She enjoyed family dinners and parties. She loved spending holidays surrounded by family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her older brother Howard, 2 sons, Jay and Kenneth and daughter in law Casey. She is survived by her brothers Lloyd and Paul Gurney and twin sisters LaRee Smith and LaRae Jeppson, her daughter in law Susan Bennett, daughter Kaylene (Dale) Chadwick, son LaMar (Jill) Bennett, son LaVon (Leah) Bennett, son DeeRay (Danette) Bennett, and son Darrin (JamiLyn) Bennett, 30 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great, Great Grandchildren.
A viewing will be held in honor of Corene at Wing Mortuary 118 East Main, Lehi, Utah, on Sunday, June 25th from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday June 26th at Wing Mortuary with a viewing preceding from 10-10:45 AM and funeral to follow at 11 AM. Interment services will be in the Lehi City Cemetery.
