Obituary

David Ray Salter, 73, passed away peacefully, May 18, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. Born on July 29, 1952, to Gilbert and Phelma Tharon Salter, David lived a life full of love, laughter, knowledge, and unforgettable "smooth moves."

David was the devoted husband of Debbie Salter, his partner in life and love for 43 wonderful years. Together, they built a family that meant everything to him. He is survived by his loving wife Debbie; daughters Annie (Jesse) and Brandy; his grandsons Trevin, Brennon, and JJ; and one of his proudest titles of all — Great Grandpa to his sweet great-granddaughter, Anya.

David loved cooking, flowers, and yardwork, and he took pride in making everything around him beautiful and cared for. He also loved martial arts, and anyone who knew him knew there was always a chance he'd break out one of his famous smooth moves — whether you surprised him or he simply decided it was time to show off a little.

He was an avid reader who was always learning something new. David loved having deep conversations about whatever subject had recently captured his attention, and if you sat down with him for a few minutes, you were likely walking away having learned something yourself. He had a curious mind, a quick wit, and a way of making ordinary conversations memorable.

More than anything, David loved his family fiercely and completely. His greatest joy was being surrounded by the people he loved most.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing his humor, wisdom, love, and legendary martial arts poses will live on in all of us. We can already imagine seeing him again and getting a tour of his latest reading subject, followed immediately by a perfectly timed karate stance.

David will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
