Obituary

Dennis Melvin Johnson, 80, of Lehi, Utah, passed away on May 8, 2023 due to causes incident to age. He was born on December 16, 1942, in Lehi to Melvin Reever and Emma Eliza Strasburg Johnson. Dennis married (Gayle) Marie Johnson, daughter of the late Russell A. and Veda Johnson of Salem, UT, on March 29, 1974, enjoying 49 years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Johnson; sons, Michael R. (Cheryl) of Virginia and Randy B.; daughter, Dyana A. Johnson; sister, Mary Johnson McDaniel; brother, Dave (Janet) Johnson, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Stephen (Pete) and Mark (Louise), sister-in-law Louise Johnson, brother-in-law Dwayne McDaniel, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who undoubtedly greeted him with open arms.

Dennis was among the most quiet individuals you could meet. As shy as he was, if you got him laughing, his infectious laughter would be hard to forget and will be greatly missed. He was a lifelong fan of cars and began fixing them at an early age. He was renowned for his car tuning skills, and before marriage and children, drag racing his street cars. He would carefully track tuning parameters and race results, logging over 600 entries in his last log book. Dennis retired from Lehi City Public Works in 2005 after 30 years as the city's mechanic. Although simple and modest, Dennis was meticulous in his appearance. It was jokingly said that he could rebuild an engine without getting his hands or clothes dirty.  In his free time, he enjoyed visiting with friends over coffee, trips to Wendover, arrowhead hunting, and coin collecting.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, May 13th, from 10:30 AM to noon at Wing Mortuary in Lehi. Graveside services will follow at Lehi Cemetery at 12:30 PM, with a luncheon for friends and family held afterward.
