Donald K
Whimpey
Sep 24, 1950 — Apr 5, 2021
Donald K Whimpey left his earthly body to begin his journey to his eternal marathon on April 5th, 2021, surrounded by his five children, mother, and two sisters. He was born September 24th, 1950, in Lehi, Utah, to Kenneth D and Lexie Fern Whimpey.
Don graduated from Lehi High School and went into several careers, including owning his own business, a car salesman for 21 years at Gene Harvey Chevrolet, and an insurance agent until he retired. Don was passionate about running and personal growth. His passion led him to many different races, including St. George Marathon and Boston Marathon.
In 2007, Don was involved in a car accident that left him in a wheelchair. He learned he would probably never walk again and figured his days of running were over for good. Don was determined to prove these thoughts wrong, and through hard work and determination, learned how to walk again with the help of a walker and then a cane. Over time he was able to run again. He has shown us what perseverance is, an example we will always remember in our hearts.
He is survived by his five children, Kenny (Janiel) Whimpey, Jake (Stacey) Whimpey, Charelle Lyon, Alisha (Jacy) Christiansen, Regan (Ashley) Whimpey, step-children Blake (Mary) Park, Cassie Park, 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, mother Lexie Fern Whimpey Gray, siblings Jeana (Keith) Christofferson, Jaynee (Gary) Kimber. He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Whimpey and brother Neil Whimpey.
