On the rainy morning of January 25th, 2024, our beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend Douglas C Muir completed the mortal chapter of his eternal story and returned to the loving arms of those who have passed before him. While we were in no hurry to lose him here, and mourn his loss, we recognize that there are many others who were rejoicing in his return. And we rejoice with them by sharing words from the apostle Paul, he has fought a good fight, he has finished his course, and he has kept the faith!

Doug was born in May of 1942 to Chester and Norma Muir in Las Vegas, NV. He would later be joined by a younger brother Roger and little sister Linda. Most of his childhood years would be spent in Orem, UT. While attending Orem High School he met Lorraine and their relationship as friends would eventually blossom into a marriage that has lasted just over 59 years. Prior to their marriage he completed a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Suva, Fiji. He loved the people of Fiji. (So much so that he and Lorraine would return 47 years later to serve as senior missionaries.) He would fondly talk of the experiences he had there that strengthened his Faith in, and Love for, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Shortly after his return from his mission he was sealed to Lorraine in the Salt Lake Temple in September of 1964. His love for Lorraine would grow throughout their life together. He confessed his love and respect for her in a poignant conversation we had with him a few days before his passing. Of his love for her there is no doubt!

After completing school at BYU and Utah State his career began with the United States Forest Service. He truly loved his profession. His career would take him to national forests in Utah, Idaho, and Alaska. Through all of these transfers he had opportunities to create many friendships and associations with amazing people. One favorite part of his job was that of wilderness firefighting. His summers would often be busy away from home, but oh how he enjoyed the challenge and reward of firefighting and he frequently would share life lessons learned through those experiences.

Eleven years after their marriage they were able to adopt their son, Matthew. This had been long awaited and the dream of becoming a father was realized. Just over two years later, their daughter Angela was adopted and she completed their young family. He loved being Dad, and we loved him. Family was everything to dad. Even though he was busy with many responsibilities we knew that he was doing those things that would bless his family both temporally and spiritually. The older we got, the more we appreciated the many sacrifices and life lessons he would teach us through his service and example.

Doug loved his country! He joined the National Guard in high school and served in the Corps of Engineers. He served in the National Guard and later the Army Reserves. He retired from military service in 2002 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

He loved serving the youth of the church, and this love would lead to his near lifelong service in the Boy Scouts of America. He served in both Unit and Council positions and enjoyed teaching not only the outdoor principles of scouting, but also the leadership principles of scouting that would shape the lives of many of the young men and adult leaders he served. He had opportunities to serve on many Woodbadge and Timberline courses and he so loved the many friendships and associations he created through them. Between his employment with the forest service, and his love of scouting, anytime he was on a mountain he was in his element where he was truly comfortable. He felt closer to those that were with him, and closer to God.

Doug loves our Heavenly Father and His son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. He strived to live a life, first and foremost, as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Following his mission he spent his life serving in any and all capacities he was called to. Some of those being a missionary in Fiji (twice!) , Bishop in Taylorsville UT, Scoutmaster in Spanish Fork UT, Varsity Scout Coach in Chester ID, Young Men's President/Seminary teacher in Thorne Bay AK, Branch Presidency Counselor at the Provo MTC, and Stake President of the Lehi Utah East Stake. Oh how he loved the people he served. He was so grateful for all that he learned through these callings and opportunities to grow. Most importantly, he realized how his relationship with his Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ was fortified and his testimony of the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ was secured. He was involved in the gathering of Israel up until his passing. He was heavily involved in family history work and his office desk was left covered in documents, family charts, and names he was preparing to take to the temple. Thank you Dad for setting the example and preparing the records for us to continue the work!

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Norma Muir, and younger brother Roger. He is survived by his dear wife, Lorraine, sister Linda Muir, sister in law Gayla Muir, son Matthew (Lori) Muir, daughter Angela Muir, and his grandchildren, Andrew, Jake, Sierra, Wyatt, Austin, Ben, Mitchell, and James.

We love you Dad! Thank you for your Christlike example and loving legacy you have created for us.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 5th, 2024 at 11:00 am with viewings being held prior on Sunday evening, February 4th, 6:00-8:00 pm and Monday, February 5th, 9:30-10:45 am. The viewings and funeral service will be held at the Lehi Meadow View Stake Center, 851 N 1200 E Lehi, Utah. Interment will be at the Lehi City Cemetery.
