Edwin David (Mr. Ed) Scovill

Mr. Ed was born June 10th, 1935 to Orien B. and Venice Robertson Scovill.  He passed away at his home on June 1st, 2024 under hospice care of congestive heart failure.  He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Jean Durfee, only son Steven David (Becca), Camas, Washington; granddaughters, Heather (Ben Siefert) Heber City, Utah; Hannah Scovill, Beaverton, Oregon; Brothers; Kirk (Carol Ann), Tacoma, Washington and Roger (Shauna) Wellington, Utah and many nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his parents, Sister Sheron, Brothers; Baby Boy and Kent.

He lived many adventures during his time on earth. After graduation from South Emery High School in 1953, he attended Carbon College in Price and worked in the parts departments of two car dealerships He served a mission in Australia from1955-1957.  Next, he was drafted into the army.  Upon graduation from Basic Training, he was recommended by his CO to become a member of the 1st Army Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  He turned it down.  Not much later he was peeling potatoes on KP at Ft. Lewis, and was informed by his sergeant that the Commanding General of the 6th Army reviewed the records of 1500 soldiers, and chose Ed to become a member of the 6th Army Honor Guard consequently, he traveled all over the world in that capacity.

He served 20 years as a trooper on the Utah Highway Patrol.  None of us will ever know how many people he physically saved pulling the injured from car wrecks, the number of bad guys he was always able to talk down and the impact he had on so many young men's lives.  He truly was the definition of a public servant.

Most remember him as a bus driver for the Alpine School District.  He got so many letters of gratitude sent into the transportation supervisor that his file had to be thinned out each year to make room for the next group of letters that were always being sent.  When there was a field trip of some sort that he was one of the several buses taking the kids to the activity, the kids would scramble to see who was going to ride "Mr. Ed's" bus.

He began singing in public with his sister Sheron when she was just two and he was four.  They sang on almost every program in Orangeville until she passed away a few months after her 3rd birthday. He continued developing his musical talent and entertained many groups with his great sense of humor, beautiful tenor voice and ability to play the guitar.

The family wish to thank Dignity Hospice care for their constant and loving service to Ed during his last illness.  We wish also to thank all our neighbors in Columbia Village for their constant support to us during this very difficult time. We truly appreciate our Pacific Drive Ward family for their selfless service.  We have truly been blessed by our Heavenly Father and all these faithful souls have been his hands.  We are eternally grateful.

There will be a viewing on Wednesday, June 5th 2024, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Wing Mortuary; 118 East Main St. Lehi and Thursday 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Pacific Drive 1st Ward building at 688 West 500 North American Fork.   Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am.  Graveside service will be held that same day at 3:00 pm at the Tooele, Utah City Cemetery.
