Eleanor JoAnn Muse was born April 24, 1936 in Lehi, Utah to Darrall and Fern Carter.  She was born the second of five children. She had a great love and respect for her parents and grandparents. She loved the creek bottoms where she was raised as well as following her father while he farmed and milked the cows. She had a special relationship with her "daddy" and was always proud of her father.

JoAnn recently mentioned that she was the leader of the other children on the farm but she said, "I think I was too bossy." Despite this, she always spoke kindly of her two sisters and two brothers and maintained a close relationship with them her entire life.

JoAnn played sports and cheered in high school. She asked her father if he would pay for her to go to college at BYU but he told her she would just go there and get married. He was correct. She met her true love, Ivan Muse, a football player, and they were married in the Salt Lake City Temple October 21, 1955.  Together they had 6 children; Derek, Lori, Greg, Garett, Brett and Nicea.  JoAnn was very devoted to her family and cooked every meal, mended the clothing while teaching music lessons, and did school work with each of her 6 children. She was a great teacher and her children were each reading well when they entered their first day of school.

Despite spending so much time with her children, Mom managed to complete her bachelor's degree at BYU in 1974 in education. She taught school for more than 11 years, primarily with kindergartners. Mom also loved art and tried to instill this love in all her children. She studied painting and painted most of her life.  JoAnn's father, Darrall, and his relatives were members of the Carter Orchestra. They played throughout Utah.  Joann would watch them play and eventually played piano at times with them.  JoAnn enjoyed music and required that each of her children play an instrument like she had. She even gave free piano lessons to any of her grandchildren who would accept them.

JoAnn was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She testified whenever possible about the Savior's role in her life. She shared her testimony of the Savior and the Gospel right up to the last hours of her life. She was excited to meet her sweet Ivan "Iv"  again and have a new body.

JoAnn Muse is survived by her sisters Carma Hampton and Carol Knapp and her sister-in-law Toni Carter; her children Derek (Emily), Lori, Gregrey (Lisa), Garett (Cathy), Brett (Diane) and Nicea. She has 24 wonderful grandchildren and 25 amazing great-grandchildren as well as numerous wonderful nieces and nephews.
