Ellen Jean
Gurney
Sep 19, 1942 — Apr 18, 2026
Ellen Jean Gurney, our precious wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away on April 18, 2026, in Provo, Utah, at the age of 83.
Jeannie was born September 19, 1942, in Provo to Ray and Martha Wright, the oldest of six children. She was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of eight, beginning a lifelong devotion to her faith. She graduated from Provo High School in 1960. After high school, Jeannie attended cosmetology school. She later worked at B&H Pharmacy before beginning her career at State Farm Insurance, where she worked until her retirement. She married Dayle Robert Gurney on March 15th, 1962, and they were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. They started their family in Provo and moved to Lehi in 1979, where they have lived ever since.
Jeannie had a generous heart and a giving spirit. She was known for her thoughtfulness, always finding ways to give gifts and serve those around her. She loved collecting dolls, cooking and canning, traveling, playing cards, dancing, shopping, and haggling her way through yard sales. She and Dayle raised their family to enjoy camping, rock hounding, and having as many family parties as they could fit on the calendar.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Steven and Doug; and her great-grandson, McCoy. She is survived by her husband, Dayle; her sister Robin (Tom) Frank; her brothers Kelly (Diana) Wright and Richie (Lauri) Wright; and her children: Brad (Susan) Gurney, Wendy (Dallie) Haderlie, Misty (Mike) Meads, Holly (Brad) Lloyd, Mandy (Scott) Lee, and Heather (Cory) Timmons. She also leaves behind 28 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Jeannie's greatest joy was her family. Her faith guided her life, and her love for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren defined it. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, faith, and family that will carry on for generations. She will be forever missed and in our hearts.
