Gavin James Cornia of Eagle Mountain, Utah passed away unexpectedly at the age of 19 on November 26, 2025 in Bluffdale, Utah due to injuries sustained in a car accident.

Gavin was born on December 5, 2005 in Sandy, Utah and grew up in Saratoga Springs, Utah.  From a young age Gavin had a warm and loving temperament, an infectious smile, and the ability to make anyone he was around feel loved, seen, and cared about.  He, his siblings, and his cousins aka his partners in crime all loved being together and had all kinds of fun and adventures together and all shared a bond that not even death can break.

Gavin was an exceptionally talented individual and excelled in everything he did but most notably he was exceptionally gifted in music, academics, and sports.  He learned to play the piano at a young age being taught by his grandmother and was an exceptionally gifted musician.  Music played an important part in his life and he often said that it gave him a sense of clarity and focus, allowed him to express himself more fully, and brought a sense of calm and peace to his soul that he could not find any other way.  In addition to the piano he also played the guitar, clarinet, and bass clarinet affectionately earning him the nickname "Squidward" from his siblings.

Gavin excelled in academics and was a favorite student of many of his teachers.  In grade school he and his younger sister were enrolled in a Mandarin Immersion Program and he was proficient in speaking the language.  He excelled in mathematics and had talked about wanting to take college courses to study engineering.  To his siblings and, let's be honest, his parents as well, he was known as "the man" to anyone who needed help with a math problem.  There wasn't a Rubix Cube he couldn't solve and was known to be able to solve multiple Rubix Cubes at a time while holding them behind his back.  He loved puzzles and anything that challenged his problem solving skills.  He also enjoyed the game of chess and would often play it with his dad.

Gavin was very active, extremely competitive, and played several sports.  He played football for several years in the Westlake UTE Conference League and was loved by both his coaches and his team mates.  He also played basketball, baseball, rugby, and pretty much anything else there was to play and had a natural athletic ability that allowed him to excel at anything he tried.  He had an internal drive to improve and always had to be the best at what he did.  This drive to learn and improve was a talent he applied to every part of his life and his drive to excel often inspired those around him.

Gavin had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel and explore.  If there was a thrill to seek he would find it and even jumped from the Stratosphere with his dad and sister in Las Vegas.  As a teenager he had the opportunity to go with his aunt and uncle on a backpacking trip through Spain and Portugal and also visited Germany and Switzerland.  He spoke of it often and considered it one of the highlights of his life.  He enjoyed family vacations and was always the one wanting to know what we were doing next.

On August 23, 2024 Gavin married the love of his life, Katie Raleigh.  Gavin always loved being with his family and especially loved being an uncle to his nieces Zaire and Primrose.  Most Sunday's you could find Gavin and Katie at Grandma Lynn's house eating dinner and playing games. Gavin also loved sharing his adventurous spirit with Katie.  Together they had traveled to several places including Hawaii where they skydived and snorkeled multiple times, Southern California where they visited Disneyland and Universal Studios multiple times and spent lots of time at the beach surfing and swimming in the ocean.  They also traveled to Portland, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Chicago having many adventures and experiences.  Gavin was also a mega foodie and was always looking for new things to try and we all received many messages from him with pictures showing us what new and delicious things he had found to try.  Gavin loved Katie passionately and it was rare to see them apart.  If there was ever a couple that fit the definition of two parts of a whole it was Gavin and Katie and his presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Gavin is survived by his ever loving wife Katie Cornia, his parents Nate and Samantha Cornia, his brothers and sisters Jarom Hulme, PresLeigh, Liv, Zach, Rome and Rosie Cornia. Lance, Ananda, Britney, Jakob, Ethan, Ashley, Lizzie and BB Brini Raleigh, lots of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, grandparents and friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather Rodney Engman.

Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing to be held on Monday, December 8, 2025 from 6-8pm at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main, Lehi, Utah. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 12:00pm a the LDS Stake Center, 49 East Centennial Blvd, Saratoga Springs, Utah. There will be a viewing held at the church beforehand from 10:30-11:30am.
