Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we, his children, announce the passing of our father Jerry Johnson on April 13, 2022, following a very brief illness. He was 87.

Gerald Lee (Jerry) Johnson was born in American Fork, Utah on February 23, 1935 to Mary Myla (Huggard) and Vaughn Ray Johnson. Brothers Dee and Val and sisters Donna and Ronda followed. He lived in Draper for many years as a child when Draper was, "just fields where [he] could hunt pheasants!"

When Dad was twelve, he lost his father who drowned in a boating accident in Utah lake. His mother's family—Grandma and Grandpa Huggard, and his many Huggard aunts and uncles—loved and nurtured him and were instrumental in his upbringing. He has long looked forward to reuniting with them after mortality.

In 1953, he graduated from American Fork High School. A few years later, on December 7, 1956, Dad married our mom, Cynthia Ann Morton. They settled in Lehi, where their children, Terri, Kay, Shawn, and Kevin were born.

Dad had a variety of jobs in the early years, but then retired from Hill Air Force base in 1997, after 30 years.

Dad was an avid lover of the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, four-wheeling, and his beloved Alaska.

He was very service-oriented and was always helping someone with their sprinklers, cows, cars or whatever needed doing. He was frequently found laboring in his own yard per our mom's instructions. She had a new idea and she needed him to make it a reality!

After our mother's stroke in 2011, he gave all he had, and even more, to care for her until she died in 2017.

Our dad was like an onion, with many layers. He was known to be too blunt, give a lot of unwanted advice, and frequently offend. He was also the most devoted, hard-working, soft-hearted guy you will ever meet—always a champion of the underdog. We will miss him so much!

Jerry is survived by his children, Terri (Mark) Stewart, Kay (Melanie), Shawn (Vicky), Kevin (Melinda), his grandchildren, Jessica, Mason, Patrick, Collin, Hannah, Chloe, Whitney, Tyler, Austin, Victor, Summer, Colton, Chelsey, Chandler, Cooper, and Callie, twelve great-grand children, and his sisters Donna Price and Ronda Snyder.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 1:00 at Lehi City Cemetery, 1100 North 400 East, Lehi, Utah.
