Gerald (Jerry) Richard Steiger

Jerry R. Steiger passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on Sunday September 13 at the age of 90 years old. He was born at home on January 11, 1930 weighing in at 11 lbs. to Peter William and Eunice Swensen. Jerry attended Jefferson Grade School, Lincoln Junior High and South High School in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In 1950 he was drafted into the Army and spent his basic training at Camp Gordon, Georgia. He came home on furlough and married Beverly Scofield on November 2, 1951. He left for Korea where he served two years in a combat zone as a high speed radio operator using Morse code.
After returning home the couple lived in an apartment, they then bought a home and lived there 13 years. Three children were born to their union, Kimberly, Darcel and Dirk.

Jerry worked for Great Western Record Company selling electronics. He worked at Skaggs Drug and then Standard Audio. Later he built a career selling restaurant equipment until he retired. Jerry was invited to sing in the Tabernacle Choir and while there he met Yvonne Erickson through a friend and neighbor who also sang with the choir. They were married April 10, 1975. The couple spent years of traveling with the Choir in the United States, also to Mexico and to Canada. They spent many years singing duets together at special events all around Salt Lake City. They bought a house together in 1976 in the east foothills of Salt Lake City.

Jerry spent a lot of time doing work on their new house and finishing rooms in homes for friends and family members. He also restored a couple of convertibles and worked on other home projects. After retirement in 1992 the couple bought a motor home, then a permanent place in St. George. They spent 23 happy winters playing golf, singing and just enjoying friends and the terrific weather.  They sang in Care Centers, in church and an annual program called "Hee Haw" which was produced for the retirement community where they lived. Later they moved to Lehi where they have wonderful friends and neighbors.

Jerry leaves behind his wife, daughters Kimberly (Roger) Boise, ID, Darcel (Ernie) Kona, HI, and son Dirk, Boise, ID, stepsons Brad, Herriman, UT, and Brian (Angie), Denver, CO, 9 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Janice Brown.
The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff of Dignity Home Health Services and Heritage Care Center for their loving care and kindness.

Family Memorial Gathering will be held at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main, Lehi, Utah, Thursday, September 17, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Masks and social distancing will be observed. Graveside services with military honors will be Friday, September 18, at 11:00 AM in the Lehi City Cemetery, 1100 North 400 East, Lehi, Utah (North west section). Masks and social distancing will be requested.
