Gilbert Mardee
Austin
Sep 29, 1946 — Jan 19, 2021
Gilbert MarDee Austin, age 74, was called home to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
MarDee was born September 29, 1946 to Frank Carlyle and Louise Hamnett Austin in American Fork, Utah.
He married Glenda Richins on February 3, 1967. They raised their family of 4 wonderful children in Lehi. This year they would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
MarDee grew up in Alpine and attended American Fork High School. In his youth he worked on a large ranch in Ruby Valley, Nevada and spoke often about those memories.
He worked for General Electric as an Electrical Test and Inspect, until his retirement. He had a creative mind and a talent for creating things at GE to make his job easier. This creativity constantly filtered into his personal life.
Everyone that knew him knew he had a love for coffee, granny smith apples, picking asparagus, and 4-wheelers. But his greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to see all the new babies brought into the family, even though he was a little wary to hold them until they were a few months old.
MarDee also loved to be outdoors and he loved to cook. He could make the most delicious meals from minimal ingredients. He spent most of his time, after retiring, tinkering around in his shop and working in the yard.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda, children Mark (Leslie), Carl, Carrie Ann Neil, and Brooke (Chad) Hall, brother Frank (Eddie), sisters Donna (LeeEarl) Healey, Diane Smith, Karleen Wilson, 22 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Alma, Thayne, Lionel, Lowell, and Phyllis.
Interment will take place at Lehi Cemetery, 1100 North 400 East on Monday, January 25, 2021 at 12 o'clock PM.
