Hyrum John Mackay, kind and loving father, brother, husband, and grandfather, passed on November 7th 2023. Hyrum was born May 2, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Theron and Grace Mackay. In high school, he ran track and field and played football for Mission Viejo High School, graduating in 1974. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Pennsylvania Harrisburg Mission from 1975 to 1977.

He and Barbara Boyack were sealed in the Salt Lake City temple in 1981. He attended BYU and the University of Utah, getting a bachelor's degree in political science in 1987. In 1990, he received a juris doctorate degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and then worked as a state appellate public defender for about ten years in Columbus, Ohio.

He moved his family to Utah County and worked 20 years for RGIS. He then worked various jobs and was a hard worker. He was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as Scout Master, Primary teacher, in Elder's Quorum presidencies and Ward and Stake Young Men's presidencies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theron Lambert Mackay, and Grace Howell.

He is survived by his siblings: Elizabeth Mackay; T. Reed (Gerry) Mackay; David R. (Laurie) Mackay; Richard A. (Wendy) Mackay; Katherine (Michael) Tolman; and multiple nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his wife Barbara, his four children and eight grandchildren: Amanda (David) Neeley and Jillian, Benjamin and Jonathan; Nathan (Jenny) and Natalie, Ava, Corbin and William; Mallory (Matthew) Blakemore and James; and Madeline (Mitchell Giles).

He passed shortly after being diagnosed with kidney cancer, with few complaints.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Pheasant Point 2nd Ward Chapel, 3065 North 1300 West, Lehi, Utah.  A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
