Ida Alemda Gray Kolan, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on September 15, 2022 of natural cause at the age of 91, with family members at her side at her home in Lehi.

Ida was born at her parents home in Lehi to Preston and Elnora Gray on May 7, 1931. Ida was the third of four children, one sister and two brothers. Growing up on the family farm and graduating from Lehi High School, She was Valedictorian of her Seminary Class. After High School Ida worked at Lehi Western Auto were she meet the love of her life, Victor Kolan and they were married May 27, 1951 at her parents home in Lehi.

Ida and Victor chose to make Lehi their home raising four children, three sons and one daughter. Ida and Victor were members of the Civil Air Patrol.

Ida was active in scouting and relief society where she helped make many quilts for the ones who were getting married. Ida made hundreds of quilt tops and quilts for family and friends. She also made many sweaters on her knitting machines for family and friends. Ida enjoyed going to the farm to play chess with her mother while the kids ran around playing with the animals. Ida and Victor loved camping up American Fork Canyon with their long time friends Dale and Betty Lou Walker. Later she started making porcelain dolls with her mother and daughter. Sculpting them from clay and making a mold of them to pour them in porcelain. Ida collected dolls and had many dolls in her collection. She was a member of the Salt Lake Doll & Craft Guild.

One of Ida's favorite times was getting together with her family at the Sand Dunes. Riding her ATV with her grandchildren was priceless and she loved the memories they made together. Ida and Victor became snowbirds, going to Quartzsite Arizona where they had a trailer, making even more friends. During that time she started making jewelry, rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and pins. The last year of her life she started crocheting afghans, again. She made it seemed like hundreds. Giving them away to her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also famous for her hand knitted washcloths. Ida was a very talented person.

Ida and Victor also had a small farm where they raised cows and hay. Ida and Victor were devoted sweethearts for 69 years before his passing in 2020. We love and miss you so much – you are a part of us and are in our hearts always and forever.

Ida is survived by her 3 sons and daughter, Paul Kolan, Lehi, Dale Kolan (Rosalie), Wyoming, Teresa Mott, Lehi and Brent Kolan (Stephenie), Lehi as well as eight grandsons and five granddaughters, Preston, Anton, Amy, Samantha, Cody, Rachel, Rebecca, Jason, Trevor, Shelbie, Chance, Destry and Seth. Seven great grandsons and one due in December and three great granddaughters and a sister-in-law Phyllis Gray. She is preceded in death by her husband. Her parents and three siblings, Mary Crossman, Winford Gray, and Glen Gray. Grandson Trevor and Granddaughter Amy Kay, daughter-in-law Diane Kolan and son-in-law David Mott.

A viewing will be held at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main Street, Lehi, Utah, Friday evening, September 23rd from 6-8pm. Graveside services will be Saturday, September 24th at 2pm at Lehi Cemetery, 1100 North 400 East.
