1937 - 2024

Idyll Grace Spalding Thayn, 87, departed this world peacefully on December 31, 2024, in Lehi, Utah. Born on October 27, 1937, in Provo, Utah, she was the oldest child of Grace Williamson and Edmund Spalding.

Idyll grew up in Orem, Utah where her father raised turkeys and often spoke of the vacations the family took each year to California after the turkey season was over. She attended Lincoln High School where she began many friendships that continue up to her passing. Idyll attended BYU after high school where she met Ronald Thayn.

On November 20, 1958, Idyll and Ronald were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, and together they shared a beautiful life together of 52 years. Their young family followed the job opportunities that Ronald had in Colorado and Utah, until they ultimately made their home of 57 years on 300 West in Lehi. Together they raised their nine children, and their home became a place for the family to gather.

Family was Idyll's greatest treasure, and she spent countless Sunday evenings surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories and relationships that will last a lifetime. Her grandkids (and kids) looked forward to the ice cream and cookies that she would have for them to enjoy, but more importantly, the time together on those Sunday nights created a family relationship between aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins that made the Thayn family who they are.

Idyll's life was filled with service and dedication to her church. She held various leadership roles, including Relief Society President, Primary President, and Young Women's President, always putting others first. While in her 70's she served in a young women's presidency and loved the time she was able to spend with the young women and the other leaders. Her love for music was evident as she played the piano and served as the organist in the 15th ward for multiple decades.

As a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Idyll served along Ron as scribe while Ron served as a patriarch, then together as missionaries in the California Arcadia Mission. They were so grateful for the opportunity to create many new friendships while serving.

Idyll loved being a grandma and was lucky enough to have the majority of her family live close by. She and Ron would look forward to attending as many events of their family as possible. Idyll loved to sew and crochet. She spent countless hours lovingly crafting baby and afghan blankets that she gifted to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and neighbors.

Idyll was deeply grateful for the love and support of her friends and ward members, who visited with her and loved her until the end.

She is survived by her nine children: Kevin (Becky) Thayn, Lehi, UT; Kristie (Mark) Hampton, American Fork, UT; Corey (Eva) Thayn, Lehi, UT; Todd Thayn, Lehi, UT; Trent (Alicia) Thayn, Highland, UT; Allison (Darren) Paul, Lehi, UT; Alan (Jinhee) Thayn, Lehi, UT; Lori (Matt) Muir, Lehi, UT; and Scott (Heather) Thayn, Lehi, UT, along with 37 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, mother, father, sister (Connie), and brother (William).

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 13, 2024, at the Lehi West Stake Center, 1920 North 500 West, Lehi, UT.

Family, and friends are invited to a viewing from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. before the funeral. Idyll will be laid to rest at the Lehi Cemetery following the service.
