Jack (Brent) Hazen, 83, passed away peacefully in Payson, Utah on May 30, 2026.  Brent was born on May 1, 1943, to Jack and Ada Hazen in Ogden, Utah.  He was the oldest of five children.

He spent his childhood in Roy, Utah.  He would go on to Weber High School, graduating in 1961.  After high school he attended Weber State College before serving a two and one half year mission to Central Germany, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  It was during this time he gained a deep love for the people of Germany and an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  After returning home from his mission Brent put his education on hold to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He was a proud veteran, continuing to serve his country in the Airforce National Guard for 20 years.  Upon returning to civilian life Brent moved to Provo to continue his education at Brigham Young University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in International Studies.

After graduation Brent worked for JCPENNEY'S where he learned his trade in the retail clothing business.   In the early 1980s Brent bravely took a chance on himself and opened Tuxedo Wearhouse.  He poured his heart into the business for over twenty five years, until his retirement.  He was a caring and generous boss who mentored dozens of college students over the years, many of whom he considered part of his own family.  He also employed many of his nieces and nephews who lived or attended school in the Provo area, always treating them with patience and encouragement.

One of Brent's greatest joys was opening his heart and home to others. Over the years he welcomed 27 foreign exchange students into his life, treating them like his own children.  To him they were simply  "his boys."  Many of whom stayed closely connected through the years, often traveling from Europe with their spouses and children, who affectionately called him "Grandpa."

Brent loved the outdoors from a young age.  He had a special passion for rock collecting and delighted in sharing the rugged beauty of southern Utah with anyone he could convince to join him on a desert adventure. His  love for nature and simple pleasure was contagious.

Brent was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in a variety of callings .  Brent  embraced any opportunities to serve the members of his ward.  He was particularly delighted in taking meals to those in need.  He was a great example of how to minister to the one, always making sure that no one was forgotten. Brent was always optimistic no matter what challenges came his way.

Brent is survived by his siblings, Blake (Colleen) Hazen, Kay (Val) Heiner, Connie (Steve) Price, and Bruce (Jody) Hazen; his 19 nieces and nephews; and the 27 foreign exchange students who brought such light and joy into his life.  He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Ada Hazen, and his nephew Rykar.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 9th at the Geneva Heights 4th ward, located at 857 w. 800 n. Orem Utah.  Viewing will be that morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m., with the funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Internment in the Orem City Cemetery.
