Obituary

James "Jim" Dever Maule, 88, of San Bruno, California, passed away on August 8, 2023. Born on September 1, 1934, in San Mateo, California. Jim is survived by his wife, Juliann Tait, his four daughters, Jami Marie Belnap (Merlin), Jeran Kathleen Urrutia (David), Jeanna Bernice Thompson (Matthew), and Jody Jane Tautu (Albert), 19 Grandchildren, 41 Great Grandchildren, his brother, Joshua Daniel Maule III (Linda), and his sister Judith Anne Maule (Jeff). He is preceded in death by his parents, Joshua Daniel Maule Jr. and Mary Jane Dever, as well as his sisters, Jane Dorothy Nichols and Joan Frances Stern.

Jim attended Serra and Burlingame High School and served in the Army National Guard. Jim was athletic, excelling in his love of golf. He continued to play organized softball & basketball into his late thirties. Jim had a ritual of reading the newspaper in the sun, followed by his avid daily walk. Jim had a 30-year career with Thoroughbred horse racing, working at renowned tracks such as Santa Anita, Del Mar, Bay Meadows, and Golden Gate Fields.

Jim married his sweetheart, Julie, in 1959. They raised their daughters and lived in San Bruno for 63 years. Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a fun-loving and friendly individual who lived life to the fullest. Jim loved his family, he enjoyed watching his girls play sports and rarely missed a game. The family vacations in Tahoe Donner and Oceanside, Ca. were special to him. Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on through the cherished moments shared with family and friends.

A Celebration of Life in his Honor will be held on August 19, 2023 11:00am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 975 Sneath Lane, San Bruno, California 94066. Prior to the service, there will be a family receiving line from 10:00 - 10:40am. Jim will be laid to rest at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, located at 1370 El Camino Real, Colma, California 94014.
