Jay W. Jensen died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on August 20, 2022 at the age of 66 after a strong fight with lung cancer.

Jay was born in American Fork, Utah on December 11, 1955 to Mac and Shirley Jensen. He was raised in AF where he enjoyed playing with many neighborhood friends and cousins, riding his bike and horse Sarah, and causing a lot of mischief. Jay attended elementary, jr. high, and high school in American Fork as well.

A hard worker all his life, Jay had his first paid job at 5 years old thinning beets on his uncle's farm for five cents a row. He also worked hauling hay, collecting turkey eggs, shearing sheep, and building campers. At a young age he found a career at General Refractories (Grefco) in Lehi where he worked for 44 years and retired in 2017. He took a lot of pride in his work, labored hard to provide for his family, and made many lifelong friends who would often stop by the house and BS.

All his life Jay was an outdoorsman who loved being in the Utah mountains, taking long rides on bumpy roads, camping, hunting, fishing, four wheeling, and target shooting. He also enjoyed bowling on the Thursday night league at Jack and Jills, and golfing. In his retirement, he became a skilled woodworker and made many bird houses, jewelry boxes, tables, and other trinkets.

Jay married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen Iverson on August 2, 1974. They recently celebrated their 48 year anniversary. Jay and Kathleen built their home in Lehi and raised their kids there. Their marriage was full of road trips, outdoor adventures, laughs, more good times than bad, more highs than lows, and more happiness than sad. They were always devoted to one another and in the end Kathleen remained by his side making sure he had everything he needed to remain comfortable.

A family man, Jay enjoyed family BBQs and dinners, camping trips, and especially loved being called Papa Jay by his grandkids.

Jay is survived by his wife Kathleen, his daughters Angie (Chris) and Jenny (Pat); his son Matthew (Jamie) and six grandkids Cole, Aspen, Easton, Abigail, Canyon, and Ty. He is also survived by his sisters Sherrie Russon and Ilene Davies (Dean). He was preceded in death by his parents Mac and Shirley Jensen.

Jay's family would like to extend a special thanks to his home hospice nurses Mandy, Leann, Lisa, and the iCare Home Hospice Team. Thank you for kindness, care, and good humor.
