Jessie Ferguson Hartshorn, our mother, grandma, and GG, returned to her Heavenly Home on August 9, 2024.

Mom was born November 26, 1931, to Mary and James Ferguson, in Airdrie, Scotland. She was the youngest of nine children. As a child, mom attended Airdrie Academy and experienced the difficulties of life in a large family during World War II. Mom learned to work hard and serve those around her, molding her into the person she became. The casualties of war hit home for the family with the death of her oldest brother. Her love and respect for her parents, her brothers who served in the military during the war, her sisters, and the sacrifices they made during this time never dimmed with age.

As a young teenager, mom and her group of friends became acquainted with the LDS Missionaries and mom was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. At the age of 18, she was baptized by Elder Melvin Hartshorn. Shortly after, she left Scotland and her family and came to the United States to start her new life. On October 18, 1951, mom and her handsome Elder Hartshorn were married in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised two daughters, Gwen and Lisa.

Mom and dad owned the Lehi Floral for nearly thirty years. This was a business, a lifestyle, and a passion that they dearly loved. Mom was a natural with people and loved the association with the community. When mom and dad moved from Lehi to Salt Lake City, mom went to work for the Division of Motor Vehicles. She was a fast learner and continued working with the public, making more life-long friends. However, her heart was always in Lehi.

Mom was a fabulous grandma. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will forever be remembered for always having a sweet treat or a meal for anyone who came to her door.

Mom remained an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a true modern day pioneer. She cherished her American Citizenship and remembered her homeland with fondness.

Family was important to mom. The family she was born into, the family she married into, and the family she and dad created. And along the way she became a part of the "Shop" family, those she worked with at the Lehi Floral. The "Scottish Family," those who shared the same hometown and heritage. The "Ward Families" in Lehi and Salt Lake. And the "Beehive Family." Those who took such good care of mom at Beehive South Jordan. Thank you for your love and kindness.

Mom has been reunited with her husband, her parents, brothers and sisters: Isaac, Richard, James, May, Thomas, Alastair, Catherine and Samuel. Mom loved Dad's family: Her Mother-in-law Jenny, Father-in-law James, David, Jim and Dorothy, Francis, Richard and Evelyn, Wanda and Keith, Ralph and numerous nieces and nephews. What a a grand reunion this has been for Mom to be with those she has been missing for so many years.

Mom is survived by her children, Gwen (Pete) Mathys and Lisa (Tom) Waite, nine grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren, Sister-in-law, Carla Hartshorn, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of a Life long lived and loved will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday August 17, 2024, at the Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main, Lehi, Utah. A visitation will be from 11:00 - 11:45 prior to the service. Internment will be in the Lehi cemetery.
