Joel Mathew Edward Baker beloved husband, father, son, brother and dear friend was taken HOME on Saturday, November 12, 2022 after a tragic car accident. Words cannot express our deep sorrow for this unexpected loss. Joel was born on July 13, 1989 in Dayton, Ohio. He married the love of his life and "always" friend, Valerie Jean Wilke on March 3, 2012 in the Columbus Ohio Temple. His long-awaited son, Grayson Joel Wilke Baker was born on May 19, 2021. His life was one of integrity, kindness, love and concern for others before himself. Joel was always there to help when needed.

Joel found his passion in serving others and making the world a safer place. He worked at Salt Lake County Jail as a Sheriff's Deputy. He also worked at the Utah State Penitentiary as a Correctional Officer for many years. He took pride in his job and loved all of those he worked with.

In his spare time, he loved anything outdoors. Shooting guns was a passion. Camping with family and friends brought him great joy. You would rarely find Joel with nothing to do, he was activity-planner extraordinaire.

He left footprints on our hearts and because of him—we will NEVER be the same.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people stay for a while, and move our souls to dance. They awaken us to a new understanding, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same. (Flavia Weedn)

Thank you, dear Joel for being there for us all. He is survived by his wife, Valerie, and his son, Grayson. He is also survived by his mother and six siblings.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM in the Canyon Hills 3rd Ward Chapel, 750 West 4050 North, Lehi, Utah.  Family and friends may call Friday, November 18, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main, Lehi, Utah.  A viewing will be held on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM prior to the service at the chapel.  Interment will follow at the Lehi City Cemetery.
