John Knollin Haws, age 86 of Lehi, Utah, died June 5th, 2021 at his home.
He was born January 30th, 1935 in Lehi, Utah in an apartment over his grandfather Joseph Broadbent's store to Jay Knollin Haws and Edith Broadbent Haws. He is the oldest of 4 children.

He grew up and attended Lehi schools and graduated from Lehi High in 1953.
He married his high school sweetheart Shirley Jean Messersmith Haws on April 8th, 1953 in the Salt Lake City LDS temple.

He joined the National Guard during the Korean War on February 14th, 1952.
During his part-time service in the National Guard he continued his education at Salt Lake Community College and BYU until his junior year when he was offered a full-time position for the Lehi National Guard. He served a total of 42 years in the military, where he received many awards and honors and retired as a Colonel. He was a member of the Central Utah Chapter of American Red Cross, The Lehi Fire Department, and received the Silver Beaver Award in the Boy Scouts of America Program. He served in many civic and community endeavors including Lehi Chamber of Commerce, Lehi City Councilman and he and his wife Shirley were honored to be named Lehi City Round-Up Grand Marshalls.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of his life and served in many positions in his ward and stake including in the bishopric of the Lehi 5th ward and many years as a Stake Executive Secretary.
He was married for 44 years when his wife Shirley died of breast cancer in 1997. They had 6 children together.

On August 29th, 1998 he married Deanna Eggli Shuman in the Mount Timpanogos LDS Temple. They have resided in the Lehi home that he and his father built in 1963. They would snowbird in Washington, Utah where they enjoyed many friendships.

He and his wife Deanna served an LDS mission in the Pacific Islands from 2002-2004. In 2004, after returning from their mission, they served in the Orem Utah Singles Stake as a counselor and advisor over Seminary and family history until 2007.

He is survived by his wife of Washington, sons and daughters, David E Haws, Lehi; Laurene Dinehart (Jordan), Pleasant Grove; Eric Ralph Haws (Ruth Ann), Cedar Hills; Heidi Hansen (Robert), Eagle, Idaho, Jeanette Haws, Saratoga Springs; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister Elaine Hadfield, American Fork. His wife Deanna's children, Gregory Shuman, West Valley City; SueAnne Woolley (Howard), Vernal; Matt Shuman (Kristin), Ogden; Frank Shuman (Anita), Providence; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; a daughter, Kristine Haws; son John Knollin Haws Jr.; grandson, John Knollin Haws III (J.K.); brothers Joseph Hugh and Ralph Jay Haws.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021. Viewing from 10-11:45 a.m. Funeral service at 12 p.m. at the Lehi 5th ward LDS chapel, 481 E 300 N, Lehi, UT. Internment will be in the Lehi City Cemetery.
