It is with a heavy heart that the family of Julian Jay Mercer announce the passing of their Husband, Father and Grandfather. Julian was reunited with his daughters in heaven on February 5, 2024. Following a 5-year battle with cancer.

Julian's best memories were of working with his dad in the gold mines at Mercur, Utah and American Fork Canyon, Utah. He felt close to his dad when he was riding in an old truck or plowing the ground on the bench in North Lehi.

Upon graduating from Lehi High school Julian served an LDS mission. After his mission to Denmark, he met the love of his life Diana Sue Brown and promptly took her to the Salt Lake Temple so they could be sealed for time and all eternity. This year would have marked their 64th wedding anniversary. Completely devoted to his sweetheart even till the end, his legacy of true love will live on in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A lifetime resident of Lehi, Utah, Julian had 4 siblings: Arva, Charles, Jedda and Bill. Julian served in many LDS church callings. He coached youth basketball and was a Scoutmaster for a time.  Julian served on the Lehi Historical Committee and cherished the culture and history that made Lehi great. He was a journalist for the Daily Herald and the Lehi Free Press. Julian loved teaching and taught for many years in the Jordan School district and at Provo Technical College.

The farm where he raised his children was his sanctuary. Milking cows and raising sheep and geese brought him much joy. Julian could often be found tending the animals and doing the chores after putting in a long day of teaching. He instilled the value of hard work in his children by teaching them the ways of the farm. "Many hands make light work", he would tell the grandkids. There was always a dog or cat to feed, a tree to cut down, a fence to put up, or a field to harrow. Anyone who came to visit the farm was considered family, and would quickly be put to work after a brief sit on the porch for some "lively" conversation.

Perhaps his most honorable accomplishment was his 36 years of service with the Utah National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve. Retiring with the rank of Lt. Col, he lived the army values of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.

Julian is survived by his wife Diana, his son Jeff (Becky) and his son-in-law Sketter Black.  Julian absolutely adored his 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren: Colton Mercer (Charly), Tristan, Rae; Kimberly Freeman (Jordan), Hawkins, Grayden; Zachary Black, Emmerick, Elowen; Skyler Black; Brody Black (Kylie), Julie.

Julian was preceded in death by his daughters Susan Mercer (1965) and Julie Black (2020).  Also, his parents, Charles Emmett Mercer and Kathryn Geneve Evans Mercer; his sister Arva and his brother Charles.

All services will be held at Wing Mortuary 118 E Main Lehi Utah.
A viewing will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024 from 5-8pm
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 starting at 11 am.  Julian will be buried with military honors at the Lehi Cemetery.
