It is with profound sadness and heartfelt reflection that we announce the peaceful passing of Karla Marie Jensen Nielsen on Friday, March 6, 2026. Karla departed this world as she lived in it—surrounded by the love and devotion of her family, at her cherished home, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication that will remain in the hearts of many.

Karla was born on December 29, 1941, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Arnold Olen Jensen and Ruby Elizabeth McBride Jensen, who instilled in her the values of compassion and community that she carried throughout her life. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, whom she often credited for her own nurturing spirit.

On August 22, 1969, in the hallowed halls of the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, Karla married her soulmate, Lynn M. Nielsen. Together, they crafted a life filled with love, faith, and family. Their union was blessed with six children: Kent Nielsen, Karl (Holly) Nielsen, Kay (Jenni) Nielsen, Karalee (Akeimo) Birima, Lori (Kraig) Gamble, and Aaron (Candice) Nielsen. Karla and Lynn also opened their hearts and home to their bonus children Terry Foster, Tyrone Foster, Velinda Garcia, and Rudy Levy whom they love as their own.

Karla's professional life was dedicated to nurturing young minds. A graduate of Snake River High School in 1960 and Utah State University in 1964, she embarked on a career as a kindergarten teacher at Bonnyview and McMillan Elementary schools in the Murray School District. She took a hiatus to raise her own children—a testament to her devotion to family—before returning to the field as a part-time staff member at Lehi Elementary, and later, sharing her gentle spirit with preschoolers at a Montessori school and daycare.

Her commitment to service extended beyond the classroom. A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Karla faithfully served in various callings, including a full-time mission in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, from 2003-2005. She also worked tirelessly with the Boy Scouts of America, earning the Silver Beaver and Distinguished Women of Scouting Awards for her exceptional contributions.

Karla's life was a tapestry of vibrant activities and heartfelt service. She was a quintessential farm girl at heart, thriving in the outdoors through camping, harvesting potatoes, fishing, and caring for animals. Her love for her family was evident as shecheered them on at countless sporting events, plays, and concerts, her presence always a beacon of support and pride.

Karla's legacy is one of passionate dedication and enduring kindness. She lived life with a full heart, always seeking ways to serve others. Her generous spirit and selflessness were hallmarks of her character, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Karla is survived by her devoted husband, Lynn, her cherished children, and her loving sister Melba (Bruce) Birchell. Her memory will also live on through her 19 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, who will undoubtedly carry forward her legacy of love and compassion.

A celebration of Karla's life will be held at the Lehi 12th Ward Chapel, where family and friends will gather to honor her remarkable journey. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice staff from Symbii for their compassionate care during Karla's final days.

In remembering Karla, may we all strive to emulate her extraordinary kindness and unwavering dedication to family and community. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us of the profound impact one loving heart can have on the world.

Service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at the Lehi 12th Ward Chapel, 300 West State Street, Lehi, Utah, beginning at 11:00am. A viewing be held just prior beginning at 9:30am. Interment will be at the Lehi City Cemetery.
