Kathryn Burchard Liechty, née Hilby (Kate) passed away August 16, 2021.

Born December 7, 1976, Kate lived many different places but called Georgia, where she graduated from Wheeler High School, "Home." She interned at the Caretta Research Center where she developed a life-long love for all things sea turtle. She attended Mount Vernon College in Washington, D.C. and later attended Utah State University where she excelled in choosing new majors and found her true calling in the Val R. Christensen Service Center. It was also there that she met the man that would one day be her husband.

She paused her college career to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Tennessee Knoxville Mission. There she found new experiences, life-long friendships, and the joy of service to God.

Following her mission Kate returned to USU and began a tornado courtship with Joseph Liechty that left a wide swath of destruction where, through hard work and sacrifice, something much stronger could be built.

Kate continued her life of service by volunteering at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, working as the assistant volunteer coordinator at Thanksgiving Point, volunteering at Salt Lake FanX Comic Convention, serving in various Church callings, and learning every known form of crafting in order to make gifts for those in need and those she loved.

Kate loved reading, particularly the works of Jane Austen and J. K. Rowling. Harry Potter was her greatest obsession. She also loved old movies, art, musicals, and all types of music. But her favorite thing was to gather her friends to socialize, celebrate, and especially to play games.

But the single most fulfilling moment in her life was the birth of her daughter Rosalind, who filled her life with endless joy.

She is survived by her husband Joseph, daughter Rosalind, mother Patricia, stepfather Stevan, Oceanside CA; brother Joshua (Steffi Stetter), Holladay, UT; brother Peter (Heather Sparks), Mill Valley CA; and niece Brenna, Decatur GA.

She will forever be a proud Wildcat, proud Southern Girl, proud Scott, proud Aggie, and friend to all.

Funeral services will be held on Monday 23 August 2021, at 11:00 A.M. MDT at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7250 Porters Crossing Pkwy, Eagle Mountain, UT. Due to health concerns for some who will be attending we will require face coverings for those who attend in person. Please respect our wishes in this. For those unable to attend in person, a Zoom feed will be available.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday 24 August 2021 in Logan, UT at 12:00 pm MDT.
