Katie Jean Dangel was born in Whittier, California on March 14, 1941 to Walter and Mildred (Cole) Dangel, the first of two children. Katie and her brother, Lynn, had an idyllic childhood in East Los Angeles where her father worked for Pacific Bell telephone company. The highlight of Katie's younger years, however, was the time she spent each summer on her grandparent's farm in Layton, Utah. Katie's ties to and love of Layton and the friends she made there remained strong her entire life. Katie graduated from El Rancho High School in May of 1958 where she received several "Outstanding Student" awards, including one from Walt Disney. Katie attended Brigham Young University for one year and then transferred to San Diego State where she graduated with a degree in nursing. Katie served as a public health nurse in San Diego.

In September of 1963, Katie married Allan Hale Clinger. When Allan graduated from San Diego State University, the couple moved to Escondido, California where Allan taught at Orange Glen High School for 30 years. They had five children: Ann, Steve, Gary, Carol and John.

Family was at the forefront of Katie's life. She and Allan loved camping with their kids and supporting them in their activities. Summers were spent fishing in Yellowstone and visiting family in Utah. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Katie was devoted to serving members of her local congregations.

After Allan passed in 1997, Katie retired to Highland, Utah where she built a beautiful home near three of her children. Katie loved working in her garden, doing family history research, participating in humanitarian service projects, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Katie was a wonderful musician, playing both the piano and the organ. She started playing the organ for her local congregation when she was 14 and enjoyed playing at church and at the Mt. Timpanogos Temple for many years. Katie was a wonderful friend, organizing many get-togethers and outings for friends and keeping in touch with extended family. Katie was very proud of her children and grandchildren; she was their biggest fan.

Katie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Allan, and her brother, Lynn Dangel. She is survived by daughter Ann Maas (Trip) and grandchildren Rocky, Mary and Danny, her son Stephen (Tiffany) and grandchildren Chance, Jace, Casey, Carson & Colby, her son Gary (Allison) and grandchildren Samantha, Jordan, Cole, Maren and Sydney, daughter Carol Walker (Jeremy) and grandchildren Katie, Tess, Jane and Annie, and son John (Alisha) and grandchildren Tori, James, Ellie and Henry. Katie's first two great-grandchildren are expected later this year.

Katie will be interred at Ogden City Cemetery in Ogden, Utah. We regret to say that due to current circumstances, we are unable to have the funeral Katie would have wanted. We will, however, be hosting an open house in Katie's garden on Friday, July 10th, from 7-9 p.m. If you wish, flowers or condolences may be sent to Katie's home at 10784 North 5250 West, Highland, Utah 84003.
