On Friday, July 31, 2020, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Kay H. Covington passed away at the age of 73.
Born on December 17, 1946 to Kenneth and Blanche Smith Covington in Kanab, UT. Kay became a lifelong resident of Lehi at the age of 2. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1965 to serve his country as an aircraft firefighter during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1969 and married Betty Jean Goff later that year. They raised two sons, Steven and Stacey and a daughter, Shawn. They divorced after 27 years of marriage. Kay found true love when he met Kim Johnson in 2002, they were married on March 21, 2009. He spent the rest of his days as her faithful, loving companion.
Kay's lifetime passions included riding his Harley-Davidson, attending 28 Sturgis motorcycle rallies, and searching for his perfect hot rod. Other hobbies included collecting coins, Hot Wheels and model cars. He was known for his strong dedication to his family, his wit and his soft heart despite his hard appearance. Kay was the miracle man who survived near-death experiences time and time again, including three motorcycle accidents, a stroke, prostate cancer and a cardiac arrest that would have killed any other man. His determination to live and live life to the fullest added many years to his life that he may not have otherwise had.
He is survived by his wife Kim; three children, Steven (Kristen), Shawn Gerber, and Stacey (Tammy); eight younger siblings, Corinne Baxter, Dick, Ronnie (Kathy), Frank (Pam), Rosalie (Kevin) Duvall, Kenny (Carri), Scott and Doug; five grandchildren, Tayler Kaye Covington (Eric) Holler, Karlie (Greg) Walker, Kylee Covington, Gavin and Gabrielle Gerber; one great-grandson, Emerson Kay Holler; and many nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by his parents and two nieces, Season and Heaven.
A viewing will be held Thursday, August 6, 2020 from 6-8pm at Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Main St., Lehi, UT 84043. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 11am at the Chappel Valley 2 nd Ward Building, 465 W. 700 S., Lehi, UT 84043 with a 1-hour viewing prior. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the funeral service is by invitation only.
