We celebrate the beautiful life of Kay Dean Jepsen, who passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, music, and adventure. Born on June 19, 1942, to Tom and Grace Price in Santa Monica, California, Kay Dean’s life was defined by her devotion to family. She is survived by her two children, Lori (David) Neubert and Karl (Christine) Jepsen; her seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her sister, Marguerite Searle.

Kay Dean’s journey began with a magical childhood in Coalville, Utah, where she lived with her parents and grandparents until age 10, surrounded by the laughter of many beloved cousins. Her high school years brought a unique backdrop of adventure, living at Sunnyside just above the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City, Utah. At East High School, she brought infectious energy to the pep club and shared her musical gifts by playing the violin in the orchestra. Following her graduation in 1960, she joyfully stepped into her true calling, attending the University of Utah to pursue a degree in nursing—a lifelong passion she knew she wanted to follow from the time she was a young girl.

Life took an exciting turn in the summer of 1963. While completing her hospital clinicals in Seattle alongside her nursing friend Joanne Tucker, Kay Dean was set up on a blind date with the love of her life, Bud Jepsen. Their connection was instant, sparking a whirlwind romance that led to their engagement just three weeks later. The following year brought two major milestones in a matter of days: she proudly graduated from the University of Utah on June 8th, and married her eternal companion, Bud, the very next day, June 9th, 1964, in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Kay Dean and Bud then set out on their ultimate life adventure to the wilds of Alaska. While Bud managed grocery stores, Kay Dean fearlessly embraced life as a public health nurse throughout the Alaskan bush, caring deeply for the Native people. Her remarkable career included legendary experiences, including delivering babies entirely on her own. Her absolute greatest joys were her two children, whom she raised with love in Unalakleet, Bethel, and Anchorage, Alaska. As a devoted mother and wife, she masterfully balanced supporting her husband‘s career with her own meaningful, 40-year impact as a nurse.

Faith and music were valued in Kay Dean's life. She served cheerfully in many positions within her church, but her absolute favorite role was as the Primary Pianist. An incredibly accomplished musician, she brought joy to everyone around her, playing beautifully at a moment's notice for church services, funerals, or simply to fill a room with fun. Kay Dean was always ready to come along for the ride on Bud’s endless travel adventures. Together, they vibrantly explored the world—including Russia, Europe, most of Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Bud’s beloved Hawaii, and countless road trips across the country.

Services will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at Wing Mortuary in Lehi, Utah. A viewing will begin at 10:00 AM, with a celebration of her life to follow at 11:00 AM. Wing Mortuary will host a live broadcast of the services on their official Facebook page for those wishing to join from afar.

The family expresses their deepest, sincere gratitude to the amazing nursing and CNA staff at Point Meadows, who adored Kay Dean and took wonderful care of her for three years. They also extend a special thanks to Allison, Randi, and all the staff at Serenity Hospice for their beautiful, Christlike service to their beloved mother and grandmother.
