She was born in Porterville, Morgan County, UT to Aubrey William Florence and Iva May Hendricks Florence. The family later moved to Magna, UT where she graduated from Cyprus High School. She participated in many school clubs and made many lifetime friends.

Kris loved camping, boating, and traveling. She took great pleasure in her many visits to Disneyland and took each of her grandchildren there to celebrate their 8th birthdays. She was a fantastic party planner. She enjoyed presenting a book club review or giving a talk. She loved getting dressed up in costumes and performing skits of all kinds - especially at Girls' Camp. A favorite tune she used in her skits was 'Hello Dolly.' She loved her lists. She loved sending birthday cards and notes to family and friends. Her true treasures, however, were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, for whom she consistently created enjoyable experiences and lasting memories.
In her professional life, Kris served as a secretary at Brockbank Jr High.
She is survived by her husband, Ray A Elder; daughter Stacey (Craig) Powell, West Valley City; son Ryan (Sherri) Elder, American Fork; Seven grandchildren Colin (Ashley) Powell, Greyson Powell, Ericka (Aaron) Ortega, Mikayla Hibbert, Addison (Josh) Bartel, Kennedy (Josiah) Durning, and Duncan Elder; Six great-grandchildren; Sisters Judy Abbott, Emily Florence, Brenda Vallejos and brother Douglas Florence.
