Obituary

On June 4, 2023, Laurel Peterson Berry had the reunion she had been wishing for when she passed beyond the mortal veil and was greeted by so many family members and friends.  As her surviving family we find great comfort in believing that for her this was the perfect beginning to what comes next.

Laurel was born September 2, 1931, to Chester MB and Georgia Whitman Peterson.  She was the fourth of their five children.  She was proceeded in death by her parents as well as her four siblings, Val, Ron, LuGene (Kirkham) and Art Peterson.

Laurel was born, raised and lived her entire life in Lehi.  She never had the desire to live anywhere but here.  She met her eternal companion Rial Vern Berry while attending Lehi High School and they married on May 3, 1950.  They were blessed with 5 children Leslie, Collette, Rial Kent, Rialeen and Todd.  Rial and Laurel had a wonderful 70 years together in which they were seldom apart.  They made a great team and their love for one another never wavered.  Rial passed last year on March 20th leaving Laurel to navigate the most difficult year of her life without him.  With a failing body and mind Laurel moved to Bellaview Assisted Living and Memory Care last September after having lived in the same house for 68 years and within the same block her entire life.  It was a difficult move for her and the family, but we will always be grateful for the kind and loving care she received while living there as well as the compassionate care received from Canyon Hospice.

Laurel's life was one of service.  Service to her husband, family, friends, neighbors, ward members and even strangers.  She worked at several local businesses during her life and enjoyed visiting with and helping store patrons.  She served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was one that could always be counted on for help.  She was the quintessential example of what it means to love and serve others.  Others' needs always came before her own.

Laurel is survived by her children Leslie (Neal), Collette (Jerry) and Todd (Sherri), son in law Cole (Cherie) Peck, 18 grandchildren plus 15 spouses and 36 great grandchildren.  She delighted in her family and loved each dearly.  Laurel was proceeded in death by her husband Rial, son Rial Kent, daughter Rialeen, grandson Anthony Cole Peck and granddaughter Alexa Peck.  She will be sorely missed but always remembered for her exemplary life of service.  We look forward to the day we will be reunited but until then all we will celebrate her life and have a Neapolitan ice cream cone in her memory.

Under the direction of Wing Mortuary services will be held in the Lehi 1st Ward chapel located at 220 West 200 South Lehi, Utah.   A viewing will be on Friday from 6-8 pm and on Saturday from 10-10:45 followed by the funeral at 11:00 am.  Interment will be in the Lehi City Cemetery.
