Lawrence Ronald Myers was born on June 3, 1946 in Long Beach, California to Robert and Billie Jean Myers. Lon crossed the veil on April 1, 2024 at the age of 77.

Lon, or Lonny as he was known when he was young, was born to a house already full of toddlers in Long Beach. He was the youngest of four children, the oldest was only 2 years and 9 months with a set of twins in the middle, when he was born.

He met the love of his life, Gaila, when he was just 14.  They did not date until after high school, but after three years of courting, they were married just after he was drafted into the Vietnam War.

Lon served as a Specialist Five,  2nd Battalion, 44th Artillery, Pershing Missile Crewman. He received the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service and was honorably discharged after his two years of service.

When he was discharged from the Army, Lon and Gaila went back to Long Beach where, after a couple other jobs, he was hired and began training for the Los Angeles County Fire Department in November of 1969. In 1973 he became one of the first Firefighter/Paramedic in Los Angeles County. He was made Captain in 1982.

After serving the public for 35 years and ready to chase the grandkids, he hung up his firefighter helmet and moved to Saratoga Springs, Utah.

Although Lon took joy in many aspects of his life, his greatest achievement and joy came from the legacy he left in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lon was a fantastic dad to his four children, but an even better grandpa! Lon was a daily influence in all of his family's lives.  The grand kids enjoyed the long talks, summer evenings in the backyard by the fire pit and especially the ice cream.  Grandpa Lon was always ready to make them something to eat, help them fix a problem, or just chat about their day.

They moved up to Utah to be close to family.  Lon is survived by his loving wife, Gaila, their four children and spouses, 16 grandchildren and their 10 spouses, and 11 great grandchildren with two more on the way.

A private family service will be held on April 9th.
