Lawrence Kent Smith

Lawrence “Larry” Kent Smith, 84, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones after a long journey with dementia. He was born on May 6, 1942, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Thomas X Smith Jr. and Arvilla Allen. He married his beloved wife, Cheryl Harshbarger, in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 27, 1965.

Larry was raised in Idaho and developed a love for family, service, and the outdoors. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Los Angeles, California, from 1961 to 1963. Throughout his life, Larry enjoyed water skiing, riding ATVs, and spending time with his children. In his later years, some of his favorite moments were spent working on classic cars with his sons and grandsons, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Larry spent his working life in the agriculture industry. He was a hard worker who took pride in what he did and, more importantly, in helping others. He especially valued the people he met and the relationships he built throughout his career.

Service was an important part of Larry’s life. He faithfully served in various church callings and looked for opportunities to help others. He loved helping people feel the Savior’s love within his community and enjoyed sharing his testimony and faith with those around him.

Larry will be remembered for his love of family, his willingness to serve, his strong work ethic, and the relationships he built throughout his life. His example of faith, kindness, and service will continue to live on through the many people whose lives he touched.

Larry is survived by his children: Todd (Kimberly) Smith of Cedar City, Kelly (Jan) Smith of Delta, Travis (Angie) Smith of American Fork, Susan (Jonathan) Heaton of Saratoga Springs, Bart (JoLynn) Smith of Lehi, Donald (Deanna) Smith of Orem, Tammy (Paul) Orgill of Lehi, Jason (Jennie) Smith of American Fork; 25 Grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; his sister, Charmaine Ralphs of Idaho; and his brothers: Steve Smith (Arizona), David Smith (Utah), Vaughn Smith (Arizona). He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas X Smith Jr. and Arvilla Allen, and siblings Thomas X Smith III, Barbara Hardy, Jean Miller, Allen Smith, and Kristine McBride.

Services will be held at the LDS chapel at 721 West 2100 North in Lehi, UT on Friday, October 2, 2026, with a viewing from 9-10:30 am and funeral services beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Lehi City Cemetery directly after the funeral.
