Lee J.
Smith
Apr 25, 1930 — Sep 12, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather, Lee J. Smith, passed away on September 12, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family in the home that he grew up in and raised his own family in. He loved his home and the land it was on, a true Lehi-ite through and through.
He was born April 25th, 1930, to John S. Smith and Marie Gunther Smith. He was the youngest of 3 children.
He met his wife Mary Joy Phillips, on a blind date. They fell for each other quickly and were married November 21, 1950. Together they raised 4 children, 3 sons and a daughter.
He had a strong work ethic and passed that on to his family. He was a dedicated cattleman and farmer. He grew and harvested alfalfa, barley, and oats for his own livestock. He also grew wheat and sold the excess to Lehi Roller Mills. He served on the board of the Lehi Cattle Association for 30 years. He was also the Head Water Master for the North Bench Irrigation for 35 years.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary Joy Phillips Smith. His children David (Lorie) Smith, Lynn (Mark) Oliver, Alan (Robin) Smith, and John E. (ReNee) Smith, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Carol, sister Beatrice, grandsons Ryan and Patrick Smith, and great-grandson Jordan Lee West.
