Leona Jayne Gibb Brown, 92, passed away on October 2, 2026 in Lehi, Utah. Leona was born February 27, 1934 in Cardston, Alberta Canada.

Leona is the oldest of 9 children born to Bruce L. and Clarabelle Brand Gibb.

When she was young, Leona lived in Hill Spring, about 20 miles from Cardston. She went to one and two room school houses through the 8th grade. She liked to draw, read, and collect paper dolls.

She was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Cardston, Alberta Temple when she was eight years old.

Her family moved from Alberta to Ogden, Utah in 1948. She became active in ballroom dancing and for the next 3 years her group performed in floor shows at many ward dances. The group once danced for President David O. McKay at his birthday party. She also sang in choirs at school and church.

Leona graduated from Ogden High School in 1952 and then attended the nursing school at the Dee Hospital in Ogden. She earned her registered nursing degree in 1955 and then on October 12, 1955 married James Edward Brown who was a school teacher.

The Family lived several years in Ogden, Ohio, and Plain City, Utah and then mainly raised their 6 children in Kennewick, Washington. During those years she worked as a nurse a few days a week. The family moved to Rexburg, Idaho in 1979 where she worked full time at the Ricks College Health center for 9 years. In 1984 they moved to Shelley, Idaho where she and Jim commuted for work to Rexburg 4 more years.

Leona was always active in the church with a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and served in many positions. She did genealogical research and family history starting in 1961 and submitted thousands of names for temple work. She had many hobbies including cooking, cross stitching and scrapbooking pictures of her family. Jim and Leona served a mission to Columbus, Ohio in 1989, and mission to the Family History Library in Idaho Falls. They served in the Idaho Falls Temple for 3 years

Birthdays, Holidays and reunions were all special occasions for several generations of the family. Jim and Leona built lasting friendships and strengthened the communities around them through their kindness, service, and example.

After Jim passed away in 2014, Leona spent the last 12 years living in Utah, closer to several of her children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Edward Brown, and siblings - Harold and Virginia Gibb. Great-granddaughters Janna McDaniel and Mae Brown. She is survived by her siblings: Bruce (Sarah)Gibb, Daryl (Pirkko) Gibb, Juanita (Richard) Bitter, Daniel (Pat) Gibb, Jeri (Doug) Aaron, Mabelann (Danny) Dannels.

She is also survived by her children: Valerie (Bill) Harker, Maurine (Lee) Meredith, Kevin (Kathy) Brown, Kirk (Julie) Brown, Cindy (Dale) Johnson, Gary (Rena) Brown, 31 grandchildren and 77 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday October 9, 2026 at 12:00 noon at the Jordan River Ward Chapel – 1929 West 1500 North, Lehi, Utah 84043

Friends may visit with family Friday morning from 10:30am to 11:30am at the church building.

Graveside Service will be held Saturday October 10, 2026 at the Taylor Cemetery at 11:30am - 720 East 129 South, Idaho Falls, Idaho. Condolences may be offered to the family on-line here at www.wingmortuary.com
