On Veteran's Day, November 11, 2023 Leonard Lee Lucero closed the book on his final chapter—a bestseller—and walked toward the bright heavenly lights where he sits on a small bluff, a fishing line cast into Lake St. Peter, unwrapping a warm egg sandwich.

He intentionally left the last 8 pages empty to be filled by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in his final week of life on earth, filled with memories of family holidays, road trips, ball games, and dad's favorite catch phrases.

Lee was born in Grand Junction, Colorado on November 27, 1934 to Lee Joseph (Lisardo Jose) and Lena (Fedelina) Lovato Lucero. Shortly after, they moved to Salt Lake City where he attended Tooele High School. Lee loved sports and played many sports including football and baseball for the Buffaloes and intramural boxing until his Junior year when he left school and enlisted in the US Navy. The year was 1952 and the Korean War was at its peak. He would serve 3 years, 9 months, and 10 days aboard the USS Telfair and participated in Operation "Passage to Freedom" in which Navy ships evacuated Vietnamese refugees from Haiphong to Saigon to help escape communism.

During a two-week leave from the Navy in 1955, he returned home to visit family and met an 18-year-old LDS girl from Lehi, Utah. Her name was Pauline Shelton. Having to return to base in San Diego in less than a week, he proposed marriage, and she accepted. They were married just days later, and they would go on to have seven children. On July 10, 1957, Lee was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He studied briefly at El Camino College in Torrance, California and was soon hired by Northrop Aircraft where he trained as a Technical Illustrator/Writer. He worked many years for Northrop until moving back to Utah with his family in 1976 where they built a home in Lehi. Lee began work at Becton Dickinson in Salt Lake as a technical writer until 1985 when he opened a family-run print shop in American Fork called LP Graphics.

Lee loved storytelling and fishing and sometimes these two went hand in hand. But more than anything, he loved his family and rarely missed a ball game or recital or school function. He served many years as scoutmaster of Troop 109, and in 1979, he received the Utah County Realtors Scoutmaster of the Year Award. His scouts earned 200 merit badges in one year, four of his scouts were awarded scouts of the year, and Troop 109 was named Troop of the Year.
Lee is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Lena Lucero; his son, Jason Earnest Lucero; his daughter-in-law; Laneeda Lucero; and brother-in-law, Frank Bolin.

Lee's posterity includes his children and spouses David Lucero and Chris Miller, Jim and Laneeda Lucero (deceased), Joe and Stephanie Lucero, Dr. Bob and Karen Lucero, Tom and Jenny Lucero, Jason Lucero (deceased), Mike and Jennifer Diamond, 21 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Violin Bolin of Salt Lake City.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening at Wing Mortuary in Lehi from 6pm—8pm. Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 9th ward building located at 481 East 300 North, Lehi, Utah 84043. Services will begin at 11am with a short viewing at 10am at the church. Interment with military honors will follow in the Lehi City Cemetery.
