Marlene Moss Roth (84) was born on March 12, 1940 to Veril and Lois Moss in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. "Why?" As Marlene liked to say, "Because that's where my mother happened to be at the time." Marlene was the only daughter followed by two younger brothers Wayne and Daryl.

Marlene's family lived in various locations across Idaho, Utah and California. While living in Palisades, Idaho at the age of 16 Marlene met James M. Roth (Jim) who would become the love of her life to whom she was married for 63 years.

Marlene graduated from Trinity High School in Weaverville, California in 1958. She went to BYU in Provo, Utah from 1958 - 1961.

On December 29, 1961 she and Jim eloped to Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple for time and all eternity on June 5, 1964. They raised their three children, Corrine, Susan, and Greg in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Jim and Marlene were active in their church and made lifelong friends while living in the Salt Lake Winder Stake. They had regular parties with their Rook Club, Book Club and Birthday Lunch Bunch that continued even after moving to Saratoga Springs in 1998.

From the time she was young Marlene had a love for reading and learning that she passed on to her children. Marlene's love of learning included graduating from BYU in 1975 with a nursing degree and attending institute classes up until December 2024, and mastering the piano at the age of 11. She also learned to play the organ at the age of 15.

Marlene had a long and successful career as a Registered Nurse working at St. Mark's Hospital for over 30 years.

Marlene was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in various church callings over the years with her earliest calling being the Sunday School pianist in 1953. She often referred to being the organist as "sitting on the bench" for over 40 years. She served in nearly every church organization.

She touched the lives of many people with her musical gift. When the Saratoga Springs Temple was announced one of Marlene's dreams was to play the organ in the Saratoga Springs Temple and in 2023, she fulfilled that dream by playing the organ during the open house.

Marlene had a great appreciation for her family lineage. She was an active member of the Daughter's of the Utah Pioneers and The Daughter's of the American Revolution.

Marlene's love for her Savior Jesus Christ was central to her life. She and Jim fulfilled a mission in Palmyra, New York as missionaries at the Palmyra Temple in 2006.

Marlene left a beautiful legacy of her testimony of Jesus Christ with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who have fond memories of participating in Grandma Mar's annual Christmas Pageant.

Marlene had a gift for drawing others to her and making them feel accepted. She loved people. Wherever she went she made lifelong friends from the "Dam Kids" in Palisades, Idaho to Saratoga Springs, Utah. She will be deeply missed.

Marlene passed away peacefully in her home in the presence of her loving husband and children on February 28, 2025.

Marlene is preceded in death by her parents Veril and Lois (Penfold) Moss, her brother Wayne Moss, sisters-in-law Sylvia Taylor Moss and Marcia Craw Moss.

Marlene is survived by her loving husband James M. Roth. Children: Corrine (Jodie) Clark, Susan Robison, Greg (Robyne) Roth. Grandchildren: Nicholas (Jenny) Hoffman, Hayden (Amanda) Clark, Ashley (Jeremy) Romo, Erika (Tim) Rideout, Megan Roth, Hope (Tyler) Allen, Bailey Robison and great grandchildren Asher Hoffman, Sam Hoffman, Alex McManes, Sara McManes, Mia Rideout, Jesse Rideout, William Romo. Brother, Daryl Moss, sister-in-law Julie Pennock Moss and many nieces and nephews.

The Roth family wishes to extend their gratitude to her nurse Jessica and the Intermountain Hospice team for their loving care, dedication and compassion during Marlene's final days.

A graveside service will be held at the Driggs City Cemetery in Driggs, Idaho on March 7th, 2025 at 1:00PM
