Neal Binns Evans peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023. Neal was born August 23, 1947 in American Fork, Utah to Dean and Irene Evans. He was raised in Lehi, Utah on Saratoga Road (Evans Lane). He graduated from Lehi High School in 1965. He continued his education at Utah State University and Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He obtained his Doctorate of Dentistry in 1973. He met Barbara in St. Louis while she was also attending Washington University, School of Physical Therapy. They married in Jefferson City, Tennessee in 1973 and were sealed in the Provo, Utah Temple. Neal started his dental practice in American Fork, Utah in 1973 and practiced until 2006, when he retired. They made their first home in American Fork, Utah where their first daughter Michelle was born. Christopher and Julie came a few years later. Neal was an active member of the LDS church and lived his life quietly serving others. He and Barbara served an LDS service mission on Temple Square for 9 years. He served in the Utah State legislature for three 2-year terms and was also President to both the North Utah County Kiwanis Club and the Highland Kiwanis Club. Dr. Neal Evans served as president of the Utah State Dental Association from 1996-1997. He served sixteen years as the Dental Director for the Utah Department of Corrections. He has enjoyed restoring multiple antique cars including his dad's 1947 Ford truck. He loved spending time outdoors, especially hunting and camping with his family in West Canyon. The cabin has been one of his favorite places to be with Barb and his brother and sister's families. Neal and Barbara have been blessed to have their daughters live close by and have always been so involved in their grandchildren's lives. He spent much of his time with his daughters helping and working alongside them. He has spent every moment giving and serving others. Neal is a trusted friend and a voice of encouragement to all of us that have been lucky enough to know him and be loved by him.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Dean Heim Evans; his children, Michelle Kathleen (Damon) Nielson, Julie Dean (Tony) Stephens; 6 grandchildren, Baylee (Luke) Stephens, Bailey (Carter) Nielson, Sydney Nielson, AJ Stephens, Gabby Stephens, Letty Stephens; sister, Loraine Carlton; brother, Aaron (Mary Ellen) Evans; sister-in-law, Donalee Evans.
He is preceded in death by his son, Christopher Neal Evans; brother, Blake Evans; brother-in-law, Wayne Carlton; his parents and close friends.
A viewing will be held at Wing Mortuary (118 East Main Street Lehi, Utah 84043) on Friday June 2nd from 6:00-8:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at the Lehi Cemetery (1100 North 400 East Lehi, Utah 84043) on Saturday June 3rd at 11:30 am followed by a Celebration of Life at approximately 1:00 pm at the Neal & Barbara Evans Residence.
