With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Nicholas (Nick) David Shurtz, who left this world on February 11, 2025. Nick was a beloved husband, father, son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, whose kindness, strength, and warmth touched the lives of many.

Born on May 30, 1987, Nick lived a life full of love, music, and creativity. He had a knack for bringing people together, and was always on the outskirts of family functions taking the best photos. He had an insatiable appetite for learning, loved to read, and always had several books he was into at any one time. He was an incredible musician; creating music brought him so much joy. A lover of Legos, he found comfort in unwinding many days with building, and cherished how much Cadence got into legos right alongside him. His kind eye and sensitive spirit made him a source of warmth and understanding to those fortunate enough to know him.

Nick was a devoted husband to Jeanette, and a proud, loving father to their daughter, Cadence. He also deeply cherished his work as a barber, finding much fulfillment in the meaningful relationships he built with his clients. His ability to listen, connect, and uplift others made a lasting impact on many.

Nick had a life-long struggle with depression, and a history of self-medicating. He diligently and bravely fought to overcome this, regularly seeing a therapist and other mental health professionals. He often had his nose in a self-help book, and used his knowledge and experience to help others.

Nick is survived by his wife Jeanette Webster Shurtz and daughter Cadence; mother, Virginia Chapman Shurtz; his grandmother, Ann Chapman; his father and stepmother, Mark and Keely Shurtz; his siblings, Tasha Dickinson, Celeste Pianezzola, and Joshua Shurtz; his aunt and cousin, Rebekah and Justin Nuckolls; his nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members and friends.

Though he is no longer with us in person, Nick's music, beautiful photography, kindness, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
