Ora Janae Chidester Yates was just shy of 87 years old when she passed away on the

rainy morning of May 18, 2025. Having numerous health complications, she left this life

exactly where she wanted to be… in the warmth of her own home, surrounded by her

children and many grandchildren who loved her more than they ever knew possible.

Janae was born in Lehi on June 1, 1938 to Joshua and Ora Gurney Chidester, and was

preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don Yates, who passed away the previous

month. Her parents and two siblings, Ann Turner and Ted Chidester, also preceded her

in death.

She is survived and profoundly missed by her children: Alden, Doreen Barker (and Paul),

Tyler, Todd (and Kim), Stacey Redford (and Jim), Travis (and Amanda), and Derek (and

Sarah), plus 27 grand-children, and 32 great grand-children. She is also survived by two

very special sisters: Kathryn Beratto and Louise Bowman. All are deeply saddened by

her passing as our hearts are brimming with love for this extraordinary woman.

At a young age, she was married and sealed to her sweetheart, Don, in the Salt Lake City

Temple on April 5, 1956. Together they served in the LDS Church as Temple Workers at

the Mount Timpanogos Temple.

Shortly after marriage, Janae and Don built a modest house in Lehi, creating a perfect

home in which they could raise their seven children. This close-knit family was her

greatest achievement. Her children were her greatest treasures, always putting them first

and never herself. Her selfless way of living was evident in everything she did, helping

her children through every aspect of life so she could cherish the grand-children that

would soon follow. And she loved all of them. Dearly and deeply.

She was a constant friend to her neighbors, ward members, and relatives, taking special

care of those associated with her children; she was a friend to their friends. She was fond

of her many pets over the years. Her current cat, Kitty, already misses sitting on her lap.

Besides being the fun mom that everyone else wished they had, she was always

compassionate and extremely generous. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, painting, and

sewing. Nearly every year since starting her family, she and Don would join relatives for

everyone's favorite camping trip to Moon Lake. Those family trips were nothing but

magical.

With her passing, she leaves an unimaginable hole in our hearts. No words could ever

describe the ache we feel… because no words could ever describe the enduring love we

have had for her. And always will. Forever.
