Obituary

Paul W. Kirkpatrick peacefully passed away early morning of Wednesday September 9, 2020 at the age of 80, after a brief battle with Stomach cancer.
Paul was born April 14, 1940 to Wendell W. Kirkpatrick and Lydia Olsen in American Fork, Utah.

On December 28, 1962 Paul married Karen Meldrum of Fontana California, they were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on March 2, 1966.

Paul and Karen have 2 sons and 1 daughter, Todd (Brenda) Kirkpatrick of Payson, Jeff Kirkpatrick and Wendi Kirkpatrick both of Lehi. From their 3 children they have 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grand children.

As a youth Paul became passionate to the great outdoors spending many years hunting, camping and riding horses up American Fork, Canyon.
He graduated from American Fork High School in 1958, where he participated in track and field.

Paul honorably served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Scotland Ireland Mission from 1960-1962.
He served his country in the National Guard for 8 years.

Paul entered and completed the police academy in 1971 and devotedly served the city of Lehi for 40 years, 10 years as an auxiliary from 1961-1971 and 30 years as a Police Officer from 1972 until his retirement in 2002. He served as a Patrolman, Detective and Patrol Sergeant. He was well known and respected in the community as an officer with integrity and respect for others.

He also enjoyed many years as part of the Mule club riding his mule Rosebud with close friends on many rides all over the Western U.S.
Paul enjoyed many hunts with his brother Bob and son Todd over the years everywhere you can imagine.

There is nothing he cherished more than his 57 years of companionship with his sweetheart Karen. They spent countless hours camping, traveling, trail riding, whitewater rafting on the Snake River in Wyoming and spending every minute possible with family, it was the highlight of their life.

His wife Karen, Children Todd, Jeff and Wendi and brothers Bill and Bob, survives Paul.

The family expresses deep appreciation to the hospice care he received from devoted hospice workers and also to Wendi and Jeff who were tirelessly taking care of him until the very end.

A viewing will be held Friday September 11, 2020 from 6-8PM at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main Street Lehi, Utah.
Funeral services will be held at the Lehi 12th Ward Chapel, 300 West State Street on Saturday September 12, 2020 from 11AM-1PM with a viewing from 9:30AM to 1030AM.

Burial will be at the Lehi Cemetery with honors from Military and the Lehi Police Department.
