Paul Kay Peterson, our loving dad, grandpa and brother, left this life on May 2, 2023, to go be with his sweetheart, Doris. He was looking forward to being with her again and we know they are both so happy to be reunited!
Paul was born in Lehi on May 31, 1926 to Virgil Hyrum and Rebecca Leota Peterson. He was raised in Lehi and graduated from Lehi High School. Paul married Doris Fay Wadley of Pleasant Grove on January 21, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Lehi and they raised their four children there.
Paul was a farmer by trade and worked very hard to provide for his family. He started farming at a young age helping his father, and he learned to have an incredible work ethic from this. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a High Councilman in the Lehi Stake for 15 years, he served a Stake mission, he and Doris taught the Temple Prep class for several years, and he was a very dedicated home teacher.
During his years as a High Councilman, Paul was given the task to find property that the young women of the stake could go to for girl's camp. He found the property in Heber at a good price and bought it on the spot. That property is still used for girl's camp by many stakes and families. He always spoke of that experience and was grateful he was instrumental in helping the young women.
Paul was very service oriented. If he saw a need, he would take steps to help. At one time, he home taught a young single mother who had a special needs adult daughter. Paul could see the strain it was on this mother to take care of her daughter. He contacted people who could help him and presented his idea to build her a home that would make it easier for her to care for her daughter. He worked tirelessly on this project, making sure everything was done the way she needed it. She was so appreciative and still lives in the home today.
In 1992, Paul took his father's place on the Metropolitan Water Board. He served as chairman of that board for 23 years until his son John joined the board.
Paul had a very strong testimony and was a great example to his family and everyone he came in contact with. He lived what he taught. He wanted nothing more than for all of his family members to be engaged in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Paul is survived by his four children, Paula (Roger) Faddis, John (Patti) Peterson, Gina (Doug) Brodmerkel and David (Stacey) Peterson, 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and two sisters Ruth Brown and Lueen (Melvin) Kirkham. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart Doris, his parents, two brothers, one sister and one grandson.
Viewings will be held for Paul on Monday, May 8th from 6:00–8:00pm at Wing Mortuary, 118 E.
