Rial Vern Berry

1930 - 2022

In the peaceful early hours of March 20 ^th Rial Vern Berry left his 91 ½ year old mortal body to fill the last spot in the Woodruff and Sarah Berry family circle. He was the final member of his family to return to his Heavenly home. In true Rial fashion "There was work enough to do err the sun goes down" and he would not leave this life until every task assigned to him was completed. Holding out to make sure his wife Laurel would be all right for a time without him, he finally gave in to his tired, ailing physical body and departed for great reunions and a season of rest.

Rial was born in Cedar Fort on September 18, 1930, to Woodruff Lysander Berry and Sarah Strickland Berry. He was the 7 ^th of 8 children born into that family. Siblings who preceded in him in death were Dale (Fawn Lewis), Jack, Ivan, Beth (Rollo Blackhurst), June (Don Fenton), Wallace (Marna Peterson), and Joan (Elman Anderson).

Because of financial hardship that fell upon the family with the passing of their father, Dad went to work at a very young age. He worked for farmers and ranchers both local and out of state. At the age of 14 he secured a part time job with Tooele Army Depot (he told them he was 16! --something he had to straighten out eventually!) He worked at Tooele Army Deport and CAMDS until he retired in 1985. Dad was also a very accomplished welder and mechanic. There was nothing he could not fix. He would make a part to fix a part!

Dad attended grade school in Cedar Fort then Jr High and High School in Lehi. While there he fell in love with the sport of football but more important, he fell for a pretty brunette with dark brown eyes. He and Laurel Peterson dated though high school then married May 3, 1950. They would have celebrated their 72 ^nd wedding anniversary in May. They were inseparable and often expressed how their love had grown throughout their years together. Approaching their 70 ^th anniversary Dad said, "You know I loved your mother when we were married but I had no idea that I could feel the depth of love that I have for her now." They were blessed with five children: Leslie (Neal College), Collette (Jerry Monson), Rial Kent (deceased), the late Rialeen (Cole and Cherie Peck) and Todd (Sherri Parrish). Rial also was blessed with 20 grandchildren, two of whom met him when he passed through the veil, and 36 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a former son in law Shane Smith.

Dad's second great love was farming. His work ethic and knowledge of farming is irreplaceable. Dad often relied on his grandsons to help when needed. This work with their grandfather became a treasured memory for these boys, and many life lessons were taught while working side by side with their grandfather. Up to his final days, the farm and what needed to be done was constantly on his mind.

Dad was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many leadership positions. His greatest love though was working at the Mount Timpanogos Temple for 13 years and was sad that for health reasons he had to be released from that calling.

The family would like to thank Active Hospice for the sweet compassion and personal care they gave dad. Special thanks to Laura, Christie, Sergio, Janet, and any others who helped provide him specialized services.

A viewing will be held at the Lehi Central Stake building located at 200 North Center Street on Friday, March 25 from 6-8 p.m., and Saturday March 26 from 10-10:45 a.m. at the same location. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Lehi Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Wing Mortuary.
